Hi, I am new in this forum and I'd like to present to you the first movement of this symphony. It is a work which was originally left as a 2 minutes fragment by a certain composer (I don't name him yet - do you guess who it is?), which I worked out to a whole movement based on this score fragment and some few sketches for the second theme and beginning of the development...

Sounds very Beethovenian if thats the case then you have done a good job sticking to the style and spirit of the composer.
But I'm not sure what was the purpose of this piece. If you wan't to elaborate that would certainly shed some light on it.
Hmm... I'd have a guess at Schubert or Mendel and Son. Sounds perhaps too adventurous for Schubert but some of his many unfinished / unstarted symphonies do display a daring he seemed reluctant to carry through....
I'm not so hot on the classics, though. I'd rule out Beethoven looking at his direction after Op 123, plus he'd probably take advantage of the appearance of valved brass... whether they're used in your completion, I don't know.
Altogether a good sound, nicely balanced.
How about having a go at completing Bruckner's 9th?

As I've known you and your work for a long time, this is again one of your major projects. Huge and great! You caught the style and orchestral language of the early 19th century which, would lead us to Beethoven and an unknown work of his? I know that you love this era and the Vienna classics and unknown composers (like Lachner), but this symphony goes deeper and uses less common harmony (mainly in the bass line). That's why I'm thinking of Beethoven. Probably I'm wrong, but the job you did deserves our admiration! Congrats!

Well, Dane, you are on the right track mentioning Mendelssohn! The base of this work is the beginning for his 6th symphony from 1845 !
Wonderful composition here. Can't say much more than that since I'm not really familiar with it. What did you have to work with in the beginning?

Like Jos, I’m also quite familiar with your music. Great work on this symphony! I listened again to the first two minutes and I think you were true to the intent one can gather from Mendelssohn’s beginning. I also thought maybe it was Beethoven without peaking.

What was in the fragment is what I guess I'm asking? What did you have to go on? That's ok you don't have to share it. I was simply curious. You built this from that so I guess I was curious what "that" was.

I'm surprised that I have never heard about Mendelssohn's sketch symphony. I did hear about his third piano concerto in e minor that was found as a sketch and completed by Professor Larry Todd the author of the remarkable Mendelssohn biography. Is this a recent discovery? how did you hear about this symphony?
