PER - Hymne der Nacht v2014

The title is just a name (now written in correct german) that appealed to me back in 2011 (when the first draft was written), It is from existentialist Nietzsches writing on Zarathustra. Worth a read if you're into individualism of the grandest kind. I have added countersubjects, but I think perhaps it lacks some modulation to keys in major. Next version will have some of that.

Well, the melodies are among my best from 2011 (at least I think so), and worth a listen. It is 10 minutes long, but I think there happens a lot in there to keep at least me interested

Give me critique or just talk to me about assaults on English monasteries (which the tune is all about). Either will be fine :)'

    Good production and use of themes and samples. The only slight problem I have with it is that I find the structure difficult to follow, ie. the sense of direction, or the reiteration of themes that would make it a convincing whole. The structure is very much a classical concern, but in a cinematic sense this piece works well as mood music.

    It is practically unmixed. :) I want to take it in the classical direction, with time.

    I will make a version where the theme iterate more. Now it's more of a journey.

    I should add, that I like these emotional journeys, evocative pieces. Writing them I mean. But I've decided to study the older way of composing, thoroughly. Beginning with fugues this spring.

    My music will probably sound very much better, och much worse. :)

    I like your work because it reminds me of movie scenes, which is good in my book. Keep it up.

    The sonic quality is fabulous, but that's probably besides the point ... Woops at 2"09' !! (sorry I'm listening as I write ...). I like the variety and balance of the orchestral palette (not sure about the "Titanic" choir sound that kicks in at 3'00 ... I would have gone with WW's personally, a flute or an oboe maybe). I got a bit "lost" (distracted) in the central part of the piece with all the brass, but love the closing theme with those doublebass slurs and some very convincing string writing on the violins.

    Altogther, a very enjoyable piece. Well done Per-Erik
