I downloaded NP3 this morning and have spent most of the day trying it out. i work withj Dorico Pro 2 and my orchestral library of choice is VSL SE 1. I also have Garritan 5 (which I rarely use) and Miroslave Philharmonik 2. For Pipe organ I have Garritan Classi PO's and VSL Konzerthaus Organ which is my organ VST of choice (sounds weird!).
I installed NP3 according to the user guide but when I tried it with an existing project the NP3 mixer would not display the instuments. If I created a new score it was fine with the caveat that when I clicked the mixer reset button in response to updating the score instrumentation it would not show any instruments - I needed to close and reopen the project.
Otherwise it worked fine. No messing around with keyswitches as in VSL. I haven't tried it with an organ score yet but will do soon.
I'm not so sure about the sound library that comes with it. I like its simlicity & ease of use but I don't know if it's as good as VSL or Miroslav.
Still debating whether or not to actually buy it. If it worked with Musescore I would. I use Musescore when I'm travelling or on holiday - all my licences are on a dongle and I leave it at home.

For anyone who knows the recent history of NP and Finale, the biggest change is that they have eliminated the "conversion" FinaleScript and integrated NP more tightly to the program so that it is now a part of the base configuration and automatically applies to any scores you open. Still to be fixed: some articulations still require a script be run to make them work.

Is NP an 'interpreter of the score, a bit like human playback in Finale, or is it for the instrumentation only. (I'm on a fortnights holiday away from my studio and can't sample any software). Loving the debate though.
I currently use finale 25 and GPO5 for large orchestral pieces but find small ensemble or solo work is too dry. The big stuff is fine.
How would NP compare.. If you have time to describe.. thanks
I've been using it for a few days now and I must say that I am pretty impressed - I'll be buying it as a xmas present for myself. It is, imo, purely a very good score interpreter but it can only play what your notation program allows - for example, Dorico doesn't play back trills so NP is no help here.
The samples probably don't compare with GPO 5 or VSL but the upside is you don't need to hunt for or create your own custom playback templates.
I think you can check and finesse your musical ideas much more quickly and with less hassle with NP and get from start to finish quicker using NP for playback although the finished project would need to be finished off in your DAW using your prefered libraries.

It's far superior to Garritan in terms of producing a good-sounding output file. It also will interpret the score, even if you don't put articulations in. For example, if you have a melody which goes up, NP will automatically increase the volume. If your melody then goes down, NP will decrease the volume. You can override the default behavior with articulations if you want to.

In general, it is a warmer sound, and closer to what real instruments sound like. With Garritan, Finale doesn't interpret the articulations, so it doesn't sound different if they are there or not, which makes it harder to compose. This is, from a compositional standpoint, the greatest thing about NP in my opinion.
