Hello everyone. I just finished a piano solo, and am wondering what you guys think of it. It has a fair bit of dissonance in it at times, but it works. At least I think it does haha. Any constructive Briticism is welcome. Enjoy!

  • It gave a very relaxing atmosphere as it has done for other commentators. and in general I found it quite enchanting and lyrical. It is a good piano solo all in all. We need pieces like this.

I also enjoyed the dissonances to which you refer. I think that they are well conceived in the places you put them, but more importantly in the ways you choose to resolve them-very naturally, I thought.  Also the unexpected cadences that you introduce at some places, quite fresh!

    How about a score?

    Thanks for sharing.

  • This has very niiiiiiiiiiice climate. I like moment from about 1:40, this peaceful "dialog".

  • Thanks Jakub! I like that part too, it really ties the piece together.

Are you saying you don't care for the beginning very much?

  • Socrates,

I'm glad it gave an relaxing atmosphere. Thank you!

I tend to use a bit of dissonance in all of my music I guess, I love the flavor and originality it brings. About the cadences, I thought they introduced a sense of surprise the piece needed.

I'll try to get a score up soon, but I'm not promising anything as I am pretty busy.

  • Hi Andrew,

This George Winston-ish piece is ok. Pleasant throughout.

  • Of course not ;) Whole piece is pleasant. I meant that the moment at 1:40 was the most interesting for me.

  • Oh ok. Thats good to hear :) I wouldn't hold it against you if you only liked from 1:40 on either, thats you opinion. But I'm glad the song is cohesive. I had a bit of trouble writing this one, writing for the piano is much different for writing for an orchestra, which is what I normally do. I had to condense parts for the piano, among other things.

  • Thank you Gav! Funny you should say that, just a few days ago I was listening to his album on the seasons. But that was after I finished the piece, he didn't influence me I don't think, that was the first time I listened to him.
