Hello Everyone:

It's been a long, long time since I've posted in here.  I composed this unfinished piece for a very dear friend a couple of years ago.  Life has been hectic lately and I haven't had time to finish it.  Comments and critiques are appreciated.

  • PLEASE find time to finish this.

My wife also listened (which is definately not normal) and thought it should be the Sound Track for a Movie that has vast, expansive, pasotral scenes.

The only comment I would have is that the balance betweem the orchestral somewhat buries the piano at times...

  • Well, i loved this. To me, it sounded like an excerpt from some lost Rachmaninoff concerto.

I agree with Paul about the balance. Not a bad sound though, not at all!

    Best,

    Quinn

  • Loved this. I agree on the balance issue. For some reason, especially around 1:30 - 1:50, the vast expansive scene to me feels like it's showing me a Sahara Desert scene. Can't explain why, but it just does. Excellent work. Please finish it.

  • Your instrumentation is clear and I agree that it does have something of a Russian flavor. However, while it does have an expansive nature, I don't feel anything programmatic about it. The sound samples are quite nice. What are you using?

  • Thanks Jeff, the samples I used are from East West platinum orchestra.  Mixed in Sonar 8.

  • Paul, Quinn, and Kevin, thank you for the kind words and for pointing out the issue of balance, you're absolutely right.  I will fix that when I finish this piece.  I had no particular 'scene' in mind when composing it.

I'm not sure why you posted an unfinished piece. As good as it is, it doesn't really mean anything to us until it's done. Please finish.
