Hi,

This is from my musical drama 'SO LONG MY MOTHERLAND'

There is an allusion to the Bible:

‘That they may all be one’

This also common with RUMİ's Sufi thoughts and other religions.

2 SONG OF THE SAILOR’S FATHER(bariton)

IT IS YOU, ONLY YOU
Cantare
Sailor’s father:
in the endlessness of stars
in the richness of nature
in the unreachable unknown i
ts you only you

in the endlessness of life
on the limits of knowledge
in my existence
its you only you

in the warmth of sun
in the beauty of moon
in the clarity of water
its you only you

In the greatness of mountains
in the depths of sea
in the life of living
Its you only you

White, yellow, black
in all human beings
and our home planet earth
We are all one
and only one

In our loves
In our thoughts
In our yearnings
in our efforts we pray
‘That they may all be one’

  • Hi, Ali,

This fits with other parts of your work you've posted here. Just how I've reacted to it, it has an uneasy undertone but liturgic in its gradual unrolling. The ensemble build up during the last few bars was quite intense.

There's nothing musically to comment on - the harmony is as it is and the vocal writing is fine. Perhaps it's the work's reliance on lower voices lends the liturgical mood to it. The rendering doesn't do it justice though and it would have been nice to see the full score to 'imagine' its possibilities.

    Great. A pleasant, interesting listen.

    • Hi Dane,

Thank you very much for your continuing interest.

Your comment "an uneasy undertone but liturgic in its gradual unrolling" is very wellcome.

It is exactly what I was after.  The father's sailor son will be living the next day.  He is

somewhat uneasy and feels the risk.  It is a 'last meal' feeling.  Thank you for reflecting.

I am aware of the rendering problem but it is a huge work to do and I neither have the time nor

can maintain the necessary substructure.  Schade!...

Sorry I could not think the full score would be of interest.

I attach it now. And I will in the next ones.

      Thanks again.

      Al
