I'm analyzing "Nobilissima Visione" by Paul Hindemith and I'm having some trouble figuring out his intentions.
The harmonies played by the strings are clear, but I'm not sure how they are related to the flute melody. Does anyone know more?

In what context are you trying to find out how they relate? And I cant see the clefs, can I assume the viola is still in alto clef or has it changed clefs?
Yes, sorry, it's a bit confusing. All strings have their "standard" clefs.
In the first bar the strings play Am, F#m/A, Dsus4/A. However, the flute melody in the first bar appears to be first in A minor, then in F minor (rather unrelated to the F# minor in the strings). But the result is a (in my opinion) beautiful sound, so I am wondering what the composer's strategy was.
