Hero theme pdf.

This is the theme i made today. There is no articulation or dynamics i just wanted to focus on the theme. I have used a string quartet to get down the basic ideas and am now ready to orchestrate the piece. I'd like to have the horns playing the melody and the violins etc. accompanying. Do I need a specific key for the horns, trumpets and flutes etc. for example "horn in F". what do i need?

Also, what is playing in the cello is not what i plan to use for cello. That is what the percussion will play. Apart from section B where there is no percussion and the cello will be playing those notes that are scored in section B

    All best

  • Hi Tristan,

It's a nice theme. I think the horns would carry it pretty well, but I'd also give it to them an octave lower. I think the bass line you have with the cellos would sound nice doubled with string bass, low brass, bassoon and snare drums to help give the piece a nice driving "hero" quality. I find that when I'm composing a hero theme like this, I get many ideas about different ways to orchestrate the same theme which helps in expanding the song into something more fully realized. I don't know if you're looking to expand what you have, or maybe it's meant to be a shorter cue the way it is. But whatever you do, variation and contrast is the key. Don't have horns carry the entire melody through the entire song - break it up and experiment a bit with it.

Sorry if that was kind of long-winded. :P I'm interested in seeing how this one turns out!

    All the Best,

  • Thanks very much Jake. That type of advice is incredibly useful and handy to me so thank you very much!

I will move those horns an octave lower too! I have put the string bass doubling with the cello's in my newer copy and will add some snare to this piece.

Im definately looking for a thicker texture for this piece. I want it really Heroic!

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated and will update you when i have changed some sections

    cheers
