EW Symphonic Choirs Software

Happy New Year to you all,

Anyone here have any experience with EAST/WEST QUANTUM LEAP SYMPHONIC CHOIRS software? I just got this program a week ago and I have never in my life worked with a less intuitive sample library.

It's taken me a full week just to get this thing up and running and, now that I have,  I cannot get any sound out of it! I use the cursor to press a key and the key dpresses, but no sound comes out. I've checked all the MIDI and Audio Ports. If I play from my keyboard, the choirs keyboard responds. But no sound. It isn't a routing issue. I have samples loaded. But when I press a key there is no indiaction of signal even showing in the led indicators.

EW has no usable product support! The manual is a nightmare read that runs you in circles while telling you how great the software is. I joined the Forum and did a search and came up empty. So, I thought I'd try here. Anybody here using this software? ANY help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

  • If you need to have the choir sing your words then it's the only product available. It's an older library with a very high learning curve but does do what it says it will do if you want to invest the time to develop the skill necessary for good results. If you don't need the word singing feature there are better and much easier to use choir libraies available.
  • I'm interested in getting it soon.

    How did you go?

  • Hi, I'm not familiar with this library, though I have a feeling it may be related to the WordBuilder option? (I don't know if you have the version with WordBuilder or not)

If yes, here's a tutorial to help you on your way: link

  • Future EWQL customers: I do not recommend to buy any EWQL products.

I do recommend to use Composer Cloud. You got all the firearms EWQL have, and use it anytime you want. It's a great deal to look around and try their sample libraries out.

On the other hand other developers went much more further in realism and sound quality while EWQL just still trying to sell their ten year old libraries. Hollywood Strings and Brass are ultimate weapons for me, but look at Spitfire, Cinesamples or 8dio how much they grew in such a little time.

EWQL needs to be resurrected. I have good experience with their support though.

If anyone looking for a choir library - Strezov StormChoir 2, 8Dio Requiem, and - for me - Voxos is the way to go.

  • Thats why I said it is a better idea to use their Composer Cloud. Why spend hundreds of dollars to buy the libraries if you can download, try and use commercially the exact same products for thirty bucks/month fully legal. If you don't need it anymore, just stop the subscription. It is even cheaper for students.

Unfortunately I have no experience in the symphonic choir library even though I own it :/

  • I understand your point but why is it better to buy first and then face the issues, if you can try and use it for a price of a big pizza? Of course if you want to own it, you can buy it later. As I did with hb and hs.

Personally I prefer to own software outright, so it's not a better idea for me and all others with a similar attitude, but I'm assuming there are limitations? Once you stop the subscription, presumably, all projects using those samples will no longer load.

  • I guess it might be interesting for those wondering now what they should do (buy or subscribe),  to point out the main differences:

    Cons:(subscribing)

    • First one is a no-brainer: subscription does not pay off in the long run
    • Second one too: owners don't find themselves unable to access their favourite sounds, while a subscriber may need to worry (students typically may get into trouble balancewise)
    • Mic positions are a strong plus side, but you need to subscribe for $ 50,-/ month  to get all 3 of them in order to make a professional sounding product that really stands out.
    •  For composers, it takes time to get familiar with all sounds and to be inspired by them and to really play the instruments instead of just sound like it. So the long run is the path to choose.

    Pro (subscribing:)

    • For evaluation, there is no better (and fairer) way than to subscribe so you can try before buy
    • For students & projects to subscribe may really be one thing to go for. If you really can deliver in a short period of time (but I fear a learning curve per EWQL instrument is to be taken in account)
    • For everyone new to digital composing, to find out that there is more than just the Garritan sounds that gently squeeze the life out of your compositions by sounding terribly dull.

  • There are probably only 2 EW libraries that I would consider personally having: Spaces which I have and Hollywood Strings which I do not have but heard it's a resource hog. I simply prefer other choices compared to East West such as Orchestral Tools.
  • hi t,you need a ilook ,do you have it
