  • I really enjoyed this very much--as also I enjoyed the comment about the irises leading you to the key of F# major..

    Very nicely done! :)

  • Hi Serg,

Very nice! Good pop-tune sound with a memorable melody, nicely done guitars with good reverb, and overall lovely -

    Thanks for posting!

  • thanks for niggles, Dave! I really appreciate them, because I always have "I like it" from my farmer's neighbor)))

I liked this, and really like the clean passages - tbh the production on the other parts lets it down a little, not the music. I'd also remove the flanger or similar effect from the distorted parts. But these are niggles, great writing and performed with appropriate delicacy.

  • Thanks, Ray!

I realized that the problem is in the composition and not in the choice of the guitar chain. the theme is written on a harpsichord. when I started playing it on the guitar, I found out that all my amps sounded "seriously horrible". I took an acoustic guitar and heard that it also drives and sounds fierce. but when I tried to change the register or key, I discovered the loss of the mood of the irises. I decided to leave it as it is.

I used here marshall slo100, mesa mark II, bogner shiva, fender hot rod, ampeg v4. effect for this maniacal place in the first part, I could not find for a long time. I was helped out by the eventide gtr4000 with a quad echo preset. I use ns10 on the near field and reflection arts for the far field.

Apart from the seriously horrible guitar tone this is a nice cue.

What did you use to record this? What do you use to monitor the mix?

  • it's true. the motive came to me when I wandered through these insane colors. I found that in the modulations of the middle part I would encounter double sharps. but who loves double sharp? ))) I tried to change the key, but I realized that the similarity with irises is lost in this case. ok, I decided, this color and flavor is worthy of six sharps on the key)))

Thanks, Bob, for share your thoughts!

  • Hi Gav, thanks for feedback!

I am especially happy to see the phrase "pop tune". tried very hard to make it look like a gift card and not for rock music.

  • I prefer vintage guitar amps. new devices sound like pans)) my most valued device was made in 1971 and has a tube tremolo channel. this marshall slo100 for a year older than me))) thanks for the advice on the equalization, maybe I really went too far with the high in this case. I wanted to make it brighter.

I think rolling off the top end with a low pass filter would do the job.
I’m reminded of a Vox defiant amp and cabinet I had around 45 years ago. It had horn in there as well as the 12” speakers
Anyone silly enough to put their ear in front of the cabinet got cut in half :)

  • Thank you for your perseverance in this matter. I recorded and mixed a new track last week with constant thoughts about your words. it seems I got a new warm and deep sound as a result. please listen to this track, I'll post it in a few days.

serg, don't think amps, think speaker frequency response. I would say most if not all guitar recordings regardless of mic'd up speaker cabinet and/or DI'd will be filtered on the desk.
