I have written a fugue based on a Korean traditional theme.  The subject of the fugue was taken from a Korean folk song called "Doraji Taryeong".  I have used the pentatonic scale, and was experimenting with a non-Western style key modulation.

  • What a nice combination of sounds. The composition if terrific. I would recommend that you have a little more contrast in "loudness" if you will. For example, the first time a motif is presented, I would of course make it the aural focus. After the statement is made, the instrument should then move back and let the next idea be presented. After all ideas are presented, I would let the individual motifs then rise and fall support each other which would create nice compositional "waves" in the listeners mind. Again, I really enjoyed listening to your work!!!!
  • That is a nice suggestion!  I did not pay attention to contrast in "loudness".  Thank you very much for your suggestion and comments!

  • Fantastic! Very enjoyable and intriguing. I love the fusion of genre: traditional German form meets Korean folk tradition. Marvelous! And you execute it in a beautiful manner. The piece has a way of really bringing me in. I would echo the comment about "loudness", but other than that I'd say it's good to go.
  • I appreciate your comments!  Have a nice weekend!
