Shadow Of Death- Work in Progress

Started this discussion. Last reply by Timothy Smith Jul 26. 18 Replies

This began with a piano solo. I was trying to get the way midi editing works down in another DAW. Working with the quantization on this. I only had maybe one or two notes that needed attention. I…Continue

The "AI" in this case is referred to as animated intelligence and not artificial. It does seem to be some kind of Artificial Intelligence at work though. At this time it's 250.00 …Continue

Kraken

I seem to like songs with nautical Ideas and themes. In this case it's a little scary since it's about the Kraken.  The music is a hybrid of sorts in that it combines a celtic feel at the beginning…Continue

" Saul, I am only now getting deeper into the best ways to play some of these instrument libraries which is a shame as long as I've been at this.. I still have a lot to learn. For such a long time I simply "played the patches"…"

Timothy Smith replied to Saul Gefen's discussion Adagio for Strings
"Example similar to what Nigel is talking about only this is being done after the notes were recorded using the sliders on a keyboard. Look at 22:50 in this video. I like the idea of using the sliders live as part of playing the part in as Nigel…"

Timothy Smith replied to Saul Gefen's discussion Adagio for Strings
"Good stuff here Saul and good points made by Nigel. You may assign "automation" to the knobs or sliders on your midi controller. Think of automation like articulation. Not quite sure how this works in Logic. In many DAWS you right click on…"

Timothy Smith replied to Jon Corelis's discussion The dream of Lygdamis
" Jon,  I believe this fits very well into the ancient music category since the composition could be played by musicians of that era using their instruments which might be comparable to those you chose to use with possibly some slight…"

Timothy Smith replied to Nigel Campbell's discussion New composition including a felted piano
"Hi Nigel, I have looked at those felt pianos as well. I like the soft character they have. This made good use of the sound.  The composition itself  develops very well although you almost lost me after the 3:48 mark. The interval was just…"

Timothy Smith replied to Liz Atems's discussion Fugal Variations in C Minor

Timothy Smith replied to Rich Townsend's discussion Two Resolutions - comments please!
"Hi Rich, Very pretty arrangements. Just a few observations on this. Most triathlon runners would be "outta puff" in trying to hold some the lengths posted. If holding those kinds of long notes vocally you would almost need to rotate in and…"

Timothy Smith replied to Saul Gefen's discussion Ancient Warrior
"Hi Saul,  Nice overall themes based on supposed distant war memories. The mix uses distant string patches in terms of reverb and slow legato attacks. Both elements that tend to distance the listener as in more of a daydream about war instead of…"

Timothy Smith replied to Liz Atems's discussion Fugal Variations in C Minor
"This sounds much better Liz! I hesitated to comment on mix volume prior because I reckoned it was low on the list of priorities as compared to say, arrangement and parts mixing. The Google upload seems much better  in terms of overall loudness.…"

Timothy Smith replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Shadow Of Death- Work in Progress
"Liz, Thanks so much for listening to this and commenting on the more recent versions. I made yet a few more changes. I added "elven voices" to add an air of mystery to it and a few more subtle sfx. I'm glad you liked that last version…"

Liz Atems replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Shadow Of Death- Work in Progress
"Hi Tim, Indeed I like this version much better than the previous... this is truly beautiful. It establishes an atmosphere of mystery and sustains it very well throughout. The "choirs" and solo instruments work very well together, and the…"

Dane Aubrun replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Shadow Of Death- Work in Progress
"Hey Timothy, Yes, this is a pretty different version. The change of pace at 1'16" was interesting and it was here it seemed to take on the tones of its title, as if a realisation was in the offing. The mood of the piece doesn't catch…"

Ingo Lee replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Shadow Of Death- Work in Progress

I have been involved in music for most of my life. I would consider myself a hobbyist composer. I play guitar, piano, bouzouki, harmonica, and am an aspiring violinist. I am a worship leader/pianist at my local church. My website online mainly deals with different themes and instruments.

Hi Tim, I looked at CF briefly this morning and I believe I saw a post from you talking about being affected by the pandemic situation and the particular difficulty it has for us as musicians. This is good to talk about since many of us have similar feelings I'm sure.
