This might be a dumb question but I often find myself struggling with the basics of rhythm and Google is not very helpful with this kind of thing.i have a very simple melody fragment that I think is…Continue

I know pieces like this are simple and childlike, but for me it's good practice at exploring small combinations of instruments and basic concepts/techniques.I thought this one would be fun to share.Continue

piece for piano and orchestra

Started this discussion. Last reply by Harmonius Jan 28. 5 Replies

I got inspired listening to a Schubert piece in F# minor and started working on this. I'm not sure what mode it is but the chord progression F#m, Bm, Db, F#m doesn't fit in the standard scheme.…Continue

"I reloaded it and was able to listen to the rest. The second half is just as impressive as the first. Superb execution. Even in the densest sections, the mix is still transparent so that you can follow the individual instruments and lines. It sounds…"

Harmonius replied to Albert de la Fuente's discussion My first symphony
"Masterful. Lots going on here and its all handled beautifully. Great sound quality too! I only made it halfway before the player stopped. Maybe I had a bad connection. I will try again as I look forward to hearing the rest."

Harmonius replied to Harmonius's discussion Question about rhythm
"Thank you, yet again, Dane. I do plan accompaniment--I was in the process of thinking about that when i realized the inconsistency in the way the beats lined up with the bars. "filling the gap in bar 12" is precisely the thing that stumps…"

Dane Aubrun replied to Harmonius's discussion Question about rhythm
"It seems to work ok. Allowing for the absence of a strong beat in bar 1 I can count 3 throughout and it makes sense. Will there be an accompaniment? If so you would accentuate the strong beat. The phrase that starts in the third beat in bar 12…"

Question about rhythm

This might be a dumb question but I often find myself struggling with the basics of rhythm and Google is not very helpful with this kind of thing.i have a very simple melody fragment that I think is in 3/4 time and that is how I have laid it out in my DAW (Logic Pro). I have attached an image of the notation as well as an MP3 file. This melody seems to fit the 3/4 pattern (emphasis on first of three beats) fine up until the twelfth measure where the emphasis falls on the third beat and stays…See More

"Hi Harmonious, Well, it's pretty, jaunty, nothing wrong with childlike. My immediate reaction is that it could be the basis of a set of variations. Cheers, Dane."

Composing music is just a hobby for me. I've always been a music lover but only started learning about it seriously over the last five years. I work with orchestral sample libraries in Logic Pro X on my Mac. I am simultaneously trying to learn basic music theory, orchestration fundamentals and the ins and outs of MIDI and Logic Pro X. My personal works are inspired by the classical-era composers like Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert.
