Hey Shane,

I finally replied to one of your emails from awhile back. Also, I have put up some new sound bites on my profile here. Be sure to check them out when you get a chance. Hope all is well!

Hey! I use all the standard Virtual Instruments - Atmosphere, Stylus, Trilogy, Kontakt 2, MSI, EWQLSO Platinum Pro, Stormdrum, DFH, EZ Drummer, and more. Maybe I'll post some info after listening to Harlem Chaser again...

Where do I start? You guys killed Lovers and Cascavelo. I'm embarrassed that I didn't think to let a drum solo come FIRST on Cascavelo--loved it. Great soloists but the piano was a little too busy for my tastes. Who is playing guitar, Tom Wolfe, maybe?
I checked out your other things and can truthfully say, my work is done here. You are not only writing great charts but now they have good endings. I applaud your variety too.
Keep on keepin' on!

Shane,

Your trumpet/guitar unison work at the beginning of "Doxy" knocks me out. Nice work!

"Tuba Or Not Tuba" has been played by a tuba virtuoso friend of mine.

Thanks for your message and thank you for listening.

Thanks so much! You know in my last project I was in a 6 piece band with The basics plus keys and violin. The guy on keys would use a lot of synth sounds and samples of acoustic instruments like horns and though it was wonderful to have, keeping a 6 piece band together was hard. Though I do like to have some wonderful extra elements on my solo acoustic stuff like horns and strings, I truly dislike rock bands that add a whole bunch of extras in the studio and when they get down to the live performance it sounds empty. Backing tracks are always an option and we use them for some things but horns would stand out to the point where people would be asking where it's coming from. So that's my two cents. Either way, thanks for listening.

Hi Shane:

did Steve send you Convergence Zone or My Museum ? The first one was recorded with a Seattle band and the second with the LA A team guys ..

As far as hybrid tracks go, I did a lot of that right before I retired ( lots of sequenced keyboards and percussion with live brass and strings -and ocassional electric bass and guitars.

Check out the "TV news open " on my site to see how it worked for me!

Cool! I used to work on one of the other five straight 9k's in Nashville when I was a staff engineer at East Iris Recording Studios:
http://www.eastirisstudios.com/studioa.html

Most of the other 9k's are 'angled' ergonomic type desks that have one straight section in the middle, and an 'angled' in section on each side.

That was an expensive desk. East Iris bought there's 'used' for $900k back in 1998.

I certainly do want a copy of "hello Young Lovers."
As to me doing a "suite," I'll have to ponder that a bit because as you already know, I have never in my life had an original thought and I do not enjoy composing.
A group of arrangements or one megachart is something else. As I said, give me some pondering time.
I would highly recommend Phil Kelly if you want some original stuff as it will be world class.
I'm sure Chris will be interested, and if we get Mart, we can have an online/internet reunion.

Hi Shane:

Really nice stuff! Welcome to the dinosaur world of wrriting for real instruments :)

Steve S ( my neighbor up here in the NW ) tells me you were one of his students right before he bagged it @ U of A .He also said you were probably the lead trumpet guy on the samples as well. Nice chops!!

I think it's a straight SSL 9000.
Not many of them around (straight, anyway).
I actually live in Knoxville right now. But, It's only a short skip away. Chris Merritt and I work together often. Perhaps, we should plan a short visit one weekend... Chattanooga is a wonderful escape.

Great charts. At last, we'll finally get to work together, but I'm having trouble identifying you from your pictures. ??????
Glad you're here.
