Very good, Ray. Love the photo. I think you got out when "the gettin' was good." I was actually starting my apprenticeship about the time you were getting out. Every year, the machining industry becomes incrementally more competitive, and the resultant herd, thinned. It's increasingly difficult to compete with overseas kids with double your IQ demanding a quarter the cost of labour. Without the supplemental income from building instruments and clocks in the last few years, we'd (my little family) be facing some difficult decisions. At any rate, I'm presently practicing phrases such as "would you like fries with that, Sir?" ... just in case.

Hi Ray;

Are you literally a coppersmith? I wasn't sure if that's a joke I don't get or you're being serious. Just wondered having been in the metalworking field pretty much my whole life.

Hi Ray! Thanks for dropping a line on here for me. I hope I can meet more composers to interact with here and engage in a positive feedback loop that would encourage more composing!

OSX.5 will run a 64-bit process, but no, it's Cubase 32-bit here. the problem is Trilogy needs a wrapper to run on this computer, Nehalem 8-core, and I'm just eschewing that trip, don't trust it; their guy told me it will work but not well, that someone shouldn't even have sold it to me at the same time as this computer. but that store was kind of hurtin' and saw my pocketbook, and I 'bought local'. iirc, 'late october', which may be optimistic. I'm looking forward to it, the demo at the store which sold me included the acoustic bass, and Trillian as a 64 bit inside of Vienna Ensemble Pro should be just great.
your jazzbo articulations in a strange theory are quite convincing btw, and it's a cute piece all round

ooh that's good to know that's trilogy bass. I've been looking hard at the page for the VSL one, which isn't too dear, but I have spent a LOT of dough recently. I already have trilogy, which has to be updated to work on my system, and someone in development went and died pushing that back til prob'ly winter.

very audiophile sound you have here btw.

what is that in a strange theory, VSL stand up bass, 'the trumpet', VSL jazz drums, and what, the warp IV clarinet? I'm guessing here...
all and all I suspect VSL all over.

whoa I am envious of that first guitar!

thank you for the props on the Dio 3-6.

(I fail to steer clear of arguments about nothing at all, but for me making music is about making a clear argument to myself in a way, so it's kind of chewing gum for logical processes to try and see what I can bullshit my way out of.. it beats watching tv)

Ray

I’m flattered.

Irkutsk is one of those places, a huge city really; that when you're there you say, "What the hell am I doing here but maybe I’ll stay a few more days. The ultimate reality is that it isn’t real. Its half Asian and half Caucasian 3/16ths Neanderthal and 1 5/8th Illya Mormetz (the Russian counterpart to Paul Bunyan). The desperately cold winters are offset by summers are so hot and humid they make Vietnam seem like an alpine meadow. Really the climate is only related to Lake Baikal that is so huge it creates its own weather and has its own eco system with animals, fish and flora that are not to be found anywhere else in the world. Baikal is a high security prison for life forms that should be extinct

That’s why I went there. To see the lake. 400 miles long, about 30-50 miles wide and so deep the bottom of it forms the surface of the great lakes. The people are uniformly miserable and depressed a condition they seem to enjoy immensely. Attitudes like joy and hope are considered to be dirty tricks and those who see the brighter side of life are considered insane, and they generally are, so they get high ranking government jobs and make delusional decisions that make the lives of the already morbid citizens even worse. When I was there, Saving Private Ryan was playing in a movie house. The audience roared with laughter all the way through.. Especially the Normandy landing.

The food is great but the coffee is even better. One sip and you're up wide awake for the rest of the winter, which they predict will end in the year 2037.

It’s a magical place, but its all black magic.

You are right about the avatar...will work on that. I have written a song and given it to Don to put music to. He will get to it eventually...he is really busy right now with Ronrose Productions, which is really good. Thanks for the welcome...eventually I hope to be able to share something I've worked on. Have a great day! :-)

Yes, but i meant that most modern music has an over saturation of some common beat, you'll here one sound, one type of rythm, repeated in twenty different songs with the same overall lyrics thrown on top. I did miss word what i said, in a sense i meant most modern music has a lack of originality or depth to it.

That aside what did you think of the piece :)

Thanks Ray! I also listened to your five pieces. WOW! I am SO impressed. You have a very elegant sound. Keep up the great work!

Yes, St Winifred's School Choir - I remember them well.

You've found me at most sentimental. Now where you draw the line on sentimentality is a matter of taste - I'm a big softie at heart, but I imagine you're a little more cynical (maybe you don't even like Christmas and Christmas songs ?). I like David Essex's Winter's Tale and that was more the style I had in mind.
