To answer your question, i use East West Symphony, Symphobia ( Project SAM ) VSL for the woodwind, Spectrasonic OMNISPHERE for the ambience sound and a lot of plugin in Logic Pro.
I would like to mastered as well as you the orcherstration.
I'm very please to have you as a friend on this forum !
Hi Leslie, thank you :) - great to meet you. You have a gift here, for not only orchestration - but for writing beautiful melody, the flute line in "The Person In The Mirror" lulls me into a dream! Congratulations on your work. All the best, Nick
Leslie, Excelent works, i sure hope they would be complete because one has curiosity to see to where your intelligent and professional music leads to. Congratulations.
I listened to your first four pieces and liked them all. They definitely evoke emotion. I particularly like Bicycle Music. It is such a playful piece. I've been working with an old school synth so the realistic orchestral sounds are refreshing and arresting. I hope I get a chance to talk with you more here.
You detect right. I wasn't aware that it was that distinctive. Originally written for guitar, I decided to re-orchestrate it using, piano, oboe and strings. Sounds better with a guitar although not easily playable because of the fingering. I doubt if you hear it again because I have only used it three times and two of those you already heard. The other time it's with an acoustic guitar, with strings and vibe over the top.
Thanks Leslie. Unsettling was intended to be the mood, however for that I actually merged two different segments of a 17-minute piece. Sometime today, I'm going to put up another couple of minutes of "The Woods." It's rather dark and atmospheric pretty much all the way through. lmkwyt.
I've also been listening to some of your samples, and I first noticed how well you've mastered the GPO sounds. The ideas you present in "The Person in the Mirror" and "Driving Forward" are truly unique. Keep it up!
Hi Leslie. Thanks for your comment. Regarding you questions, I'm not much more than noobie myself, have just been lucky enough to work as assistant along side some great writers. It seems budgets are dropping and this restricts the amount of real players. However, quite a few of the guys are out to eastern europe to record orchestras as its cheaper.
Regarding spotting - seems to be a real mix from what I've observed. Some editors have already slid in guide tracks which the directors want you to almost clone, others seem ready to work from scratch. Recent docu I did was full of guide tracks which i emulated and they put the finished tracks in completely different places anyway!
As a guitarist I've used only VSTi's for orchestral instruments over the years and notes on a score pad are a foreign language to me unless I have my phrase book out :))
The trouble with VSTi's in Notation apps tend to be the devices used by sample library developers to achieve e.g. legato where overlapping notes are necessary to trigger legato etc etc. From listening to your music I'm sure you'll succeed in getting the best from them.
Leslie,
You certainly know what you're doing with these cues squeezing so much out of GPO. I agree that nothing matches real musicians but EW Platinum or VSL samples would go just that little bit further.
And! howza bout a nice photo instead of that shadow avatar :)

Your gift for music is obvious. I hope one day you write non-film music in a complete self-standing work.
Wishing you the best,

All I can say is ... sorry! :-)
No, seriously, I am very happy that my words and music have helped you find what you wanted to do.
