I do realize they wouldn't be string quartets anymore, but listening to the music, I couldn't help but wonder. Great music regardless in my opinion.

I'm afraid you have no choice but to write for this century as this is the century in which people will be listening.
If I google "18th century composers" your name will never be on that list.
Some here would pooh pooh 20th/21st century film score composers work as being a lesser art than classical. This of course is generalized nonsense. Most of them have studied and learned from the greats of the past in constructing harmony, orchestration, etc.
I'll keep looking forward to you developing your art.
