Featuring the composers:
Members of the Nashville Composers Association have created new, original scores for four 8-10 minute short films. This event will explore the relationship of music to film, and the composers will share with the audience their approach to composing music for film, and specifically how they approached their films. The films will include an early 20th century animated silent on the sinking of the Lusitania, and a film in claymation especially created for this event by Watkins Institute filmmaker, Kevin Page.
Each composer will get one film short as their “project.” The fourth film, a unique creation by German filmmaker Arpad Bondy was specifically designed to explore the effect of what we hear on what we see - the narrative is vague enough to allow a number of different interpretations. This film will be scored by all the composers and the audience will get a real taste of the diverse approaches and possibilities that music brings.
The music will be performed live by local musicians in various instrument combinations and in different styles according to the whim of the composer.
We are grateful to have the collaboration of the Nashville Composers Association, the Nashville Film Festival, and FilmNashville in making this event possible.
Admission: $10 adult; $5 student.
