Music Composers Unite!

Last Wednesday, I had a cue recorded to picture at CBC studios, on the wonderful sounding Glenn Gould stage.

It was captured by a number of hall and surround mics, as well as close mics, and it was multitracked through a NEVE 'VR' Legend Console to Protools. The ca. 25 piece orchestra was made up of the advanced students of the Royal Conservatory's Glenn Gould program, and they played beautifully. Seeing musicians expressively play through music they've only just seen for the first time 5 minutes ago never ceases to amaze me.

Please take a listen - it's now the first track in my player - I'd appreciate any feedback!

Cheers,

Adrian

Thanks for your comments, Pete, very kind of you!

I was happily surprised by the string performance. The orchestra had only a few moments with the music on the stands, and did 3 takes. The string section really seemed to 'get it'. I wanted a more 'growly' sound from the low brass, but I think I pushed them to their limit. All in all, I was very pleased, and it was a huge learning experience. A lot of holes in my orchestration were exposed during the performance, which was a good thing - always something to improve!

I'm listening to the track now - impressive! (The track called Grey County Live - is that the one?) Emotional writing. Sounds very full for 25 players. The delicate stuff is beautiful! Did you feel you got enough dynamic contrast out of the musicians? Good luck with it!

Wonderful orchestration and composition...It's amazing to have your own work performed by talented musicians. I have the same fortune -- to hear my music played by live musicians! Good luck!
