Lying in bed, late last night. Headphones and a pillow. Weather Report was not a forecast on TV, but an iPod tune called 'Palladium'. Gotta love it- crispy, punchy, dramatic, a simmering stew of alternating powerful melodies and perfect improvisations. Just about as good as it gets. Pulsing with life. Album- 'Heavy Weather'.

January 4th '09

Lately, I've been listening to Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, Hindemith's Mathis der Maler(Blomsted), Orff's Carmina Burana, and before sleep I usually listen to Pink Floyd's 'Time' for the inspiring guitar solo and awesome background arrangement. Last night I opened my eyes in the middle of the night, obsessed with various ideas for the beginning of the second movement of Equinox, which will be a more 'serious' section, whatever that means.
