Following a conversation with my students this week about how they see themselves as composers, we discussed who their perfect combination of three composers would be. As this is very personal and subjective, I would be intrigued to know what you think so I could possibly add this to our discussion this week. You may have a more balanced view than myself or students.
Mine would be: John Cage for appreciation of sound for sounds sake, Beethoven for…Continue

Just to introduce myself: I have been writing music since I was seven - drawing my own staff on paper to try to record my fiddling on the piano. My "audience" was impressed at how straight the lines were. [sigh]
I play the piano, but read music like a first-grader reads writing - so I have to memorize the song then bring it up to speed. Learned basic music theory on my dad's electronic organ (what with chords and the "pointer system") And I composed a number of pieces - including our…Continue

A small 4-voices fugue, resulting from a bet with my teacher Karl Rasmussen. Composed in December 2010, it is for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon.
The original italian title means "Fugue in a single-file line", as the notes can be connected from the beginning to the end by a single line.
I hope you enjoy!

Someone requested that I post some work. Since little is available on YouTube, here is the only piece (aside from an improvisation) that is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si9TfP1JpYc&feature=youtu.be ;
This is a video of the premiere of Remembering the Night Sky with Diane Hunger on alto saxophone. Be warned, the video hangs with a couple of minutes left, but the sound continues. (I've never had…Continue

This morning I decided to sit through a performance of Mahler's 4th symphony on youtube... in the hopes of expanding my horizons with Mahler and all that, y'know, since in the past I've really only heard his 1st symphony in full, and only snippets of the others.
Unfortunately, I have to confess my conclusion is still the same as before: his music just doesn't do it for me. I don't deny his genius at the craft, and certainly he's an excellent orchestrator -- probably far beyond what I…Continue

Just an old song of mine in a home recording from last summer. Me and a friend on guitars and him also singing it as my voice was quite out of order. Since it has Greekk lyrics I give a rough translation
