"Well, that is more a practical aspect. Definitely, it is an important part to play chorales. Easy chorales that are in the same key with after played music! The band players should understand their role in the main chords. In a choral, the main melody must be led (highlighted). While in fermata chords the priority should be given to low voices.” Sergei Boulon, music director at LeBAM, artist director of the Lebanese Higher conservatory big-band, and Tuba player at Lebanese Philharmonic…

I wrote a postcard piece today, which is also a 30 second piece. Well, it's thirty seconds if you play it left to right with all the instruments. If you play it per the instructions, it is of infinite length, or until the players have had enough. I've left it full width, so you can read it, but I may have to edit it if that doesn't work.…

With the modern world being largely visual in associating anything with music, there is something to be said for a composer's skill set to work with visuals, such as with scoring for film, whether it be short film, or a full blown production. Having the skills to create great music is just one facet in the arena of scoring.
Being apt, efficient, and to create something on-the-fly for a director is paramount. Also, having an environment of technology that provides quick turnaround on…

Recently I wanted to use Sonatina VST with Cakewalk. I first installed Cakewalk and then Sonatina VST.
While working step by step I met difficult problems, such as rendering switches to staccato and missing sounds in the imported MIDI tracks.
The problems I met are shortly:
1- Sonatina soft synth works one per track, so 10 instruments means 10 soft synths.
2-Headers and other controls in the MIDI file has to be deleted.
3-Cakewalk base C is one octave…

Hi,
I decided to write my impressions and technical notes about Cakewalk here in my Blog.
Prelude Fugue for Piano is a 2 + 3 minutes long piece. I chose it to be able to
play with track parameters easily.
First I played with the QuadCurve Equalizer of the Sonatina output track.
Than I played with piano tracks, reverb etc.
References for these:
QuadCurve Equalizer module…

Dear all,
The cognitive process that is required to start composing a piece has been always interested me. Reading from many sources I found that the composition process requires both parts of our brains, but sometimes, even for mature composers, this is not clear. I leave you a short article on the matter. Hope it might be useful. Criticism and new ideas are always welcome!…

I believe the majority of us composers have faced this predicament: creating VS making a living.
Of course, one can not exist without the other.
Soon after our graduation, we realize Steven Spielberg is not going to call us to get involved in a multi-billionaire production that could pay for our living expenses for the rest of our…

Starting 2020 with a big announcement for all oriental music lovers across the globe!
My book "Longa & Sama'i with piano accompaniment" is finally ready!
Chosen pieces from the wide Arabic classical repertoire, in addition to some works of contemporary Lebanese composers (9 longas and 9 Samai'), arranged for solo instrument and piano accompaniment (can be performed with piano and bass as trio as well), by the Lebanese composer Wajdi Abou Diab, with transposed/arranged part…

When I introduce myself to people, they invariably ask me, “What did you study in grad school?”. When I tell them I studied music composition the conversation inevitably turns to questions about what I do and how I make a living. These conversations eventually led me to think about what I learned while studying music composition, and how I could share my experience with people in a way that is meaningful and helpful.
This new blog series…
