Subwoofer. Awesome.

Today at a thrift store I found a JBL subwoofer. As soon as I got it home I hooked it up to my system and tried patches with a lot of low-frequency energy. What can I say? Bring on the Gran Casa. Now I know why I never used the bass drum effectively; I couldn't hear it. Lows in double bass are incredible, timpani hits and rolls are gut-shaking. Listening to mixes of mine, I realized there were holes where bass wasn't handled consistently through a piece because I had no way of hearing the…

Road Trip v3

I just completed a 3rd version of the Road Trip mix. I created it because I wanted the vocals to be louder and the bass guitar to be a little quieter. I also added a little compression to the lead guitar tracks. All it needs now is pro mastering...

Listening Journal #2

Man Shostakovich is awesome!  Now I am into the Piano Concerto...inspired!

I am also getting into the Pines of Rome again.  I am not sure, but it might have something to do with the fact that my 5 year old son is fascinated with Fantasia 2000.  So, all I get in the car is Respighi, Gershwin, Shostakovich, Stravinski, et. al.

So, here it is:

Dmitri Shostakovich, Piano Concerto No. 1

Ottorino Respighi, Pines of Rome

Everyone was to busy to help. So I'm about to put out my second CD and would like some different opinion to help something new that I wouldn't have thought of.
