Ok, so that went better than expected. (See last blog).
Even more work has been put in to it to tighten it up; color grading, background audio and, more importantly for me, the soundtrack has been added. I now know where my cues more or less fit. Did you not have a spotting session Russ? Yes, i did. But the thing is with films is that it's made by very creative people with a lot of artsy things they want to say in it; even in a violent movie such as this. And so cue placement and… Continue
Am mixing it up at Twickenham Studios, England this weekend. Am i kacking it? You betcha! Seriously though, only big films have the budget and backing to go there for audio post. Let alone an indie film.
Speaking of post, will upload photos of my adventures in one of britain's biggest film recording studios later!
We re-recorded the jazz ballad "Not really a crime" which I wrote some week back.
The previous recording had some click issues due to computer overloaded with Convolution-reverbs.
I thought about arranging some strings and woodwind lines above the piece, but in the end
I like a naked piano version of this song better. It kindá suits the piece.
I am currently scoring music for a 5 hour mini-series called "For Love of Liberty:The Story of America's Black Patriots" hosted by Halle Berry and featuring Avery Brooks, Morgan Freeman, Samuel Jackson, Ice T, Alan Rickman, Alec Baldwin, Bill Cosby etc.(http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800037/) I am co-composing with Emmy award composer Larry Brown and Alan Lindgren. The series covers the history of America's black patriots from the 1700's thru the… Continue

I wrote two jazzy songs last week. The first one is called "Not really a crime", which I recorded live with the
vocalist Helena Thomson during the saturday.
My computer did some hickups during the recording-session (too much impulse reverbs going on..hehe) so we will make a new recording on tuesday.
I figured that since most of the places I post to are either dead, dying, or tackling completely different subject matter, it was time to look around for a new 'home from home'. Two days of googling later, here I am. Y'all best be checking the fine print in your insurance deeds about now. :D
I was going to attach a few midi's to the post to introduce that side of things, but apparently the site doesn't accept them natively. Instead, you get a… Continue
Here's the latest news! I'm finishing off my third CD. A project titled "At What Age". It features my new quartet with some special guests contributing poetry and other instruments and lots of new music by yours trul...y. I'm even bringing out the Mellophone on a couple of pieces! You know you don't want to miss that!
To make this happen, I'm partnering with Kickstarter.com, a great website that makes funding the project surprisingly easy and painless (I get 100% of the money raised,… Continue

I read an article on sound in Discover magazine where the author pointed out a site that lets you test your hearing. If you have pretty accurate speakers (not just computer speakers) or headphones and a decent audio interface, this can help you figure out your personal curve - frequencies that you hear better or worse than others. Here's mine:…
I recently created a new blog dedicated to the Music for Film/T.V./Multimedia Industry.
Take a look when you get a chance and feel free to contribute your ideas, comments, etc... (It's still kind of 'bare bones' but I'll be adding new features over the next few days). Thank you and have a great one!
That, Dear Horatio, is the Question
Whether 'tis nobler to pursue the lofty heights of Academia
Or, to slug through the maze of streets that is self education
When one hits a wall, when the doors to understanding
are too many to choose, perchance the halls of wisdom
provide opportunities one should not lose.
So, having joined the Composers forum, I realize that I am significantly outclassed. There are some remarkable compositions over here, and the general… Continue
