30 September 2009

I officially started back at RSAMD yesterday, and had a composers' meeting at 2pm to discuss projects for this year. It looks like this is going to be a very busy (but exciting) year; I've been assigned 4 new projects on top of the 2 I already had.

I recently completed my sequenza for solo oboe, but still have the piano quintet and piece for solo viola to finish.

I have finished designing the structure of the piano quintet, and have completed 3 of the 5 sections, which I am very happy… Continue

Interview with (English version)

My new Annen Berg album "The Lower Orders" is set to be reviewed on German music review site

The review and and interview will be in German, but here is the Q&A in English:

1) Your music reminds me of some musicians who are more than twice as old as you: THE BYRDS or THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS, e.g. Why in particular do you fancy… Continue

Some new information, since I have not posted here since 2007!

I was awarded a “Male Singer/Songwriter Of The Year” nomination from the Los Angeles Music Awards in 2005, “Album Of The Year” in 2006 and have had some record deals in the past. Below is the link to some of my material. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments and I appreciate your time. Thanks.

16 September 2009

Haven't updated this blog for a while, by the looks of things. So many projects have been completed/cancelled in that time! At the moment, working on a piece for piano and string quartet, solo viola and solo oboe. These 3 projects are due to be completed by September 28th!

The piano quintet is possibly the largest project I've worked on; consisting of 5 movements, it will be approximately 30 minutes long. This is the primary project that I have been working on over the summer… Continue

Conferences in L.A.

Hello Everyone,

I'm thinking of attending Music in Media Interactive conference or the Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film and T.V. Music conference in L.A. this year, but before I buy my tickets, I was wondering if anyone has previously attended either conference and if I could get some feedback (What was the format like? Were the discussions/panels helpful? Networking opportunities? etc...) I'm interested in gaining experience as music supervisor for film/t.v., so I thought this… Continue

Added "Finite Meditation" and "Wake Up My Love" for choir

Hey fellow composers, I have finally been able to put up two works.
1. "Wake Up My Love," (Click on "Wake Up 6)-- the choral work that I said had been finished for quite some time.
2. "Finite Meditation" a mix of sitar and other synth string textures that was performed at our music tech concert last year. I hope you enjoy them. I'm currently working on another project for a film--not a big one, one of those low budget ones.

Inspiring Music

I just discovered Henryk Gorecki. The Symph no 3 was playing on our local NPR station. It's amazing. Long periods of nothing but sustained notes or chords, very slow and evolving, modal. So extremely well done:

This video uses it as a score about the Holocaust, which apparently Gorecki did not want associated with this piece so much. I don't like how this… Continue
