The Canyon

Just added this new track. I wrote it months ago but was never happy with the mix. Having practised my audio skills a little more, I've tried again and it's no longer terrible (I hope!) See what you think.

When writing this, I imagined a movie scene where someone is lost in a canyon by a stream and gets spooked and starts to run. The twilight is deepening and every now and then they think they see something moving alongside them through the trees. At the end, they emerge into the light… Continue

The Academy Series: The Music Soundtrack - Alternative Scores

The Music Soundtrack: A Composer’s Forum of Contemporary Scoring Techniques

Topic for Sept. 27, 2007: “Alternative Scores

The Society of Composers & Lyricists has been sponsoring a lot of events recently, and even if they are not the official sponsor, the organization does inform its membership of other events that would be of great interest to them. Such is the case with a three-part series put on by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences under the category of “The…

Collision demo complete

I have finally finished the demo of my album, Collision. This involved recording and mixing vocals for nine songs in the space of a week, working only in the evenings and overnight. After that, I went to Wales and spent a couple of days in the beautiful Gower area relaxing and recovering int he company of friends. And I needed it, too!

I'm fairly happy with how it sounds, though I still have a list as long as my arm of things I want to tweak or re-record. I am going to be… Continue

The Trials and Tribulations of Software Installation...

I've been so busy this summer that I haven't had time to install some new software-

Sonar 6 and NI's Kontakt 2.

No time until yesterday. Sonar 6 installed easily, (as usual for Cakewalk products)

Kontakt 2 was a bit of a fiasco. It's a software/computer based sampler. For many years I had wanted to get an external hardware sampler, like Akai's S5000. I never did, so I was looking forward to using Kontakt 2.

My primary source for orchestral samples had been my Alesis… Continue

One more day... or 'this doesn't sound like Star Wars'

So, I've discovered something about myself. I guess it turns out that being a 'finisher' isn't always the best thing.

I'm always proud of the fact that I do finish projects and am good at keeping to my deadlines. Unfortunately for my last two projects I felt that this is not working so well for me.

I'm about to work on my first feature film, I'm about halfway through 'Music for the Media' and have just started the…

New Websites

I have just updated both of my main websites to something more manageable. These can be found at

Spencerbruce.com and syncrosound.com

On another note, I have just finished the audio post production on the film Shiver, by director Jonathan Stewart and it was a great project to work on. Watch this space for more info soon!

Creating a new Orchestral Template

Right, well having spent about 18 months running from assignment to assignment I decided to try and take control of my whole procedure.

My samples are getting to the point where I'm generally happy (although who isn't looking for that elusive string sound?) and I've begun creating my definitive sample templates.

So having created an intimate orchestral template and a light orchestral template, I'm now doing an assignment in the style of Star Wars and I decided to create my…
