Yes, I know lots of people in L.A. are looking forward to the day they can permanently "get out of town." That's why everyone looks at me like I'm some kind of nut case when I tell them I'm heading back to L.A. after 15 years in the Bay Area.

I was born and raised in L.A. and although I don't miss the traffic congestion or the smog, I do miss the people -- my networks of friends, relatives, business associates, etc., that really signify what a city means to you.

Right, well I've been a little busy but the other day I got some new studio furniture and I thought I'd update my blog here again.

Hey Folks,

Can anyone tell what is causing the annoying "ping" sound in the middle of my comp "Adagio for Strings?" I tried re-recording, cutting out that part of the wave, blocking out the high frequencies, nothing worked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

As well as the album demo mix (see comments), I've uploaded a video. It's a short time lapse film I made on Super 8mm at university in 1986, and it's going to be put on a DVD for the students next year. The DVD is being produced by the Students' Union, and they don't want to deal with copyright issues, so I've replaced the previous soundtrack (by Sky) with my own composition.

I have recorded demo versions of six songs for the album, but because I was singing along quietly I've ended up choosing keys that work when I'm singing quietly. Therefore some of them are a bit too low for me to sing properly. I wonder how many other songwriters fall into that trap?



Anyway, what it means is that I need to re-do three of them. They are in various forms on my digital recording workstation (which is currently just a laptop): some of the instrumental parts were recorded… Continue

I am now working on "Collision" - a concept album with ten tracks, and I have been rather busy in the last two weeks - I already have demo versions of five tracks. There are lots of different styles in this project. In my song list I've posted the first minute of a song called "Shed", which is about a snakeskin being shed, not about the place where you keeps yer tools! :)
