Pressing Keys?

I really urge those composers who don't use a keyboard to branch out and try using one. It really isn't that scary. Dive in. Sure, it's a little tough at first, but anything worthwhile requires some effort. Being able to perform with an instrument will give you a huge advantage over composers who use only notation programs that lack human timing and subtle dynamics. A performance ability will help you to convey emotions that would otherwise be impossible.

June 29th 2011 bossa?

I've got the day ahead of me. I'll use the time to get into a new Bossa Nova composition. I'm building basic sections by recording elec guitar parts, with a MIDI drum accompaniment. At this point I'm focusing on the basic structure, while trying various ideas as I improvise and then refine details- riffs, phrases, etc. Sometimes a motif can appear out of nowhere and I'm sure this happens for most composers.…

Third Blog.

I am working on uploading my music in an audible way. It should be possible!! Anyway, if I'm done, I really would like to know what you all think about the music. I didn't compose for a long time yet, or at least not at a row. I have been writing for a while, stopped, started, stopped, started, oh well, you get the meaning I guess. So any advise or critic would be greatly welcome!! Just anything.

It's not all that bad :)

My previous blogs all were quite negative, first there was a war with the computer than some complaining about the current state of affairs in the music business.

Today I want to be positive for a change and it's quite easy to do so. I'm currently enjoying a holiday at the aegean sea cost with beautiful weather and being in the company of my lovely girlfriend. The only thing that I miss is making music. Unfortunately I'm not really able to write without some help from my ears so the…

Second Blog

Today I am still wondering about what to do with the music that should be uploaded on my page. The sound is really bad yet.

Also I am wondering how get to know more about Balkan music. I am thinking about going for some groups. Must be somewhere in Amsterdam, I would guess.

What interests me most in music. That is a thought that has been a long while in my mind, but doesn't have a satsfactory answer yet. Do you also have that? I am thinking maybe I like too much, and I should…

First blog

My name is Tamara Weessies. So Hyun Jung is my Korean name, which I use as a composer. I am a professional recorder player from Amsterdam, Holland. I teach a lot, play in an ensemble, mainly Renaissance music, and am composing. Although I haven't composed a lot yet, I really am happy to join this site. My main goal right now as a composer is religious music and traditional music, mainly the Balkan. I also love polyfonic music, which is why I also love playing Renaissance…

me playing viola

it's not a composition by me so it's not on dissection, but just a link to me murdering diana ross. admittedly I've never had a viola lesson in my life, so any string players please comment. however, this does help me to understand the instrument better than reading a text book.

The star trek utopia of free music in a world of global uncontrolled capitalism

Already a while ago I realised that I actually got used to the idea that even if I become a 'hit' composer ( and within the edm scene I already managed to score some 'hits' ) I will still be earning peanuts compared to even 11 years ago when I started releasing music.

A lot of people are considering music to be 'free' and say that composers, musicians and all other creators should create for the love of creating, l'art pour l'art.

If we would live in some utopian world , let's…

At war with the computer

I have a quite capable machine as my main DAW, recent quadcore processor, loads of  RAM, great RME soundcard so for a while I have been living without any real workflow problems like for example having to bounce tracks or working with unacceptable latency.

Of course this made me overconfident because when I was setting up a new orchestral template I was not holding back in any way. One after the other massive multisample got loaded in, spiced with the necessary convolution reverbs and…

Techno fragment

I have been working on the same phrase for a few months.  In my effort to deal with writer's block I have taken a fragment of my composition and mashed it up with techno phrases.

Everyone knows what a 'composer' is. The definition is general and inclusive rather than narrow and specific.

: one that composes; especially : a person who writes music

Yes- it's that simple and it's a definition…
