I find this is useful as well, I think like creating space to free write every day, while you might not always feel like writing, it helps you practice and also create the space where you'll actually be writing music when you're inspired to instead…

I am proudly in support of the Elevate Hope Foundation. Founded by Sheila E. and Lynn Mabry, it is an organization that gives alternative therapy to victims of child abuse and allows the youth to express themselves through the arts:

Our Founding Story
At the age of five, Sheila E. was sexually abused by a babysitter. At twelve years old, Lynn Mabry was abused by a family friend. Growing up, they both struggled with the shame of their childhood experiences. Not until they were adults did each realize the impact of the exposure to music assisted in their healing process. As Sheila and Lynn developed a friendship and business relationship, it was evident that they had to do something for children who had experienced the same. With this astounding revelation and shared compassion, Sheila and business partner Lynn, launched the Elevate Hope Foundation (EHF), which is committed to assist abused and abandoned children through music and arts therapy to offer an alternative form of expression through such methods. But it doesn't stop there. If YOU are one who is willing to help save a life, please become one of our supporters and GIVE.

Crucial research uncovered that victims of abuse have expressed a desire to involve themselves in the education of music and the arts as an outlet with limited resources. Elite universities have conducted pilot programs to determine the effects of the arts as an alternate to conventional education for this unique group. The results were astounding. Music and arts therapy improved their overall comprehension and motor skills, as well as enabling them to cope with their emotional, even physiological challenges.

With your help, we will soon build the first Compassion Care Center Of The Arts (CCCA) in the metropolitan Los Angeles Area. CCCA will provide these Wards of the State a safe environment to learn or polish their craft, enjoy an afternoon of peace and tranquility, and have a place where children and their non-offending care givers can receive counseling that will enable them to survive such trying times. Given the opportunity, each will learn the very basic skills for day-to-day living, all in order to provide hope and a purpose when society deemed them unreachable. This is our desire.

Volunteering: Music Therapy at Hospitals

This past week one of my friends, who is also a violinist, offered me to play duets with him at a hospital in order to earn volunteer hours at school. I hadn't thought of this particular idea yet even though I try to make most of my volunteer hours as music-related as possible (hey, why not?) and I'm actually pretty excited. We haven't started the program at the hospital yet; we're still going through some protocol: orientations, paperwork, tuberculosis shots, etc. I'm still not sure if I want t… Continue

So Much Joy and Inspiration!

I am so thrilled! There are so many joys that come from being a composer. This week, when I had spare time at my volunteer position at a college music department, I decided to begin writing a piece for an elementary ensemble. To my surprise, my ideas came along quickly and easily after I began. The main reason I became motivated to write this piece was because a few months ago, I went with my mother, a second-grade teacher, to attend an elementary honor orchestras concert in order to support one… Continue

Thank you so much for finding me and for your comments! I have gotten plenty of good feedback from folks like you on this forum, and it makes me smile, particularly since I wasn't sure how the composer crowd would take to my sampling style. Yes that picture was from the Post Secret website...didn't know it fit its way into one of the books. But then again, I haven't viewed them all. The standard of music is low these days, but there is still a lot of good out there! It's just not as mainstream as the garbage for the most part. I'm glad you enjoyed my music! I'd like to hear some of yours...

thank you for your review. Well, I prefer melody, whether it be in ambiance music or any other genre. I do listen to some ambiance music, like the ones by Enigma.
I actually tried to make this sound like a film composition. But lack of knowledge drastically limits the extent of imagination. For instance, I have very little idea about drums and percussion used in film soundtracks, so couldn't implement it that much. And for the same reason I could not add brass instruments like trombone, trumpets and all, although they are inseparable elements in film music. I need to study on them.

And thanks a lot for the website. If you know about any other good site for music making, please send me.

Thank you such a compelling story. What was done to those poor children is inexplicable and despicable, yet music, which I believe is the language of God, provided a divine healing process. I am a firm believer of that!..As music has always been the force in my life. Thank you again.

Oh, and it's only the sounds that Sibelius can provide, so the quality isn't great I'm afraid...

Hey MusicgalSD,

You wanted to hear some of my music, and so I've uploaded the first of about four string quartets that I'm in the process of writing. It ends in a different key to the one it starts in to lead into the second quartet which I'm still working on.

I'll upload it again in the Music Dissection forum along with a score.

I hope you enjoy it

Cheers
