I never saw this thread either or I would have commented on it. I can say with great certainty that nobody ever claimed Simon was no qualified to run the music challenge. The music challenge, however, was never set up or intended to be a competiti...

About Me:
Guitar lessons in my youth, sent me in the direction of composing music. Later I taught myself a basic knowledge of piano/keyboard. I divide my time between music and the visual arts. (see my Website) I have been using MIDI and DAWS since the late 80's. I'll try to post some photos of my gear soon. My favorites include Wayne Shorter, Hendrix, Beethoven, Copland, and John Adams, to name a few.

Simon's Departure...

Hey, Friend.
Sorry to see you go. I did not agree with everything you did or said, but I did notice the benevolence and the altruism. Good luck in your future endeavors! Thanks for the time and energy you donated to this forum. Remain true to your music.

Symphony of Psalms Stavinsky ??

I cannot remember who, at this forum, directed me to this masterpiece.
?? Please send me a personal message. Lately this composition has been at the top of my listening list.
Who ever told me to check it out- thanks! It's fantastic. Especially the first movement.

Mountain, LVB's 6th

My latest thrill is listening to Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride- mostly fantastic album, with a heaviness that swings, unlike later metal bands. Beethoven's 6th is sounding better and better as I get older. It's full of the usual cleverness, but without the bombastic quality, although he still plays the hero. I think it shows his best sense of 'balance' in terms of lengths of sections, lengths of moods and emotions. The way he slowly morphs one section into another is beautiful and works in an… Continue

electric Bass Guitar

...signed by Noel Redding.
Man, I'm rusty. Rather sloppy playing. Today I recorded various bass ideas for Osaka Suite, Part 1. It is a pleasure to play to music with a fantastic drum track. ...but, he's raised the bar for me.
I'll continue working on the bass track tomorrow morning.

I'm thrilled that you got that Doug. I feared it might go unnoticed.

Hi Doug. Thanks for your comments. All the work is done on my PC, from start to finish. I use Adobe Sound Booth for mastering - it has some great finishing tools including a fab reverb, compressor/limiter and stereo enhancement. Most of the instruments are recorded 'dry' as most bundled fx within VST instruments are pretty poor - with the exception of the Pro-verb included in Omnisphere - but that uses a ton of processor power and is practically useless once you've got more than half a dozen tracks recorded. Of course, any limitations can be overcome by upgrading procesor and memory, so that's going to have to be the next thing to spend money on - Widows Vista, another 2 Gig of memory and a dual core processor - bah, it never ends! :-)

Was "Dead Ringers" a conceptual take off on "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"? I never saw it, but that was my impression, maybe from trailers.
