Former music composition major now again taking up the study of music composition after 15 years and a totally unrelated career. I had forgotten just how frustrating this process is for me, and I don't know of anything else that equals the intellectual challenge of trying to compose music. As I'm sure is true of many other composers, I am my own worst critic, so many, many sketches will never see the light of day.
One thing I've learned about myself in many different arenas is that I'm more of a creative implementer than a "blank page" creative mind, so my approach to studying composition this time around has been to try to set parameters first, which I can then implement with my writing. I hope to have some finished product from this process to share with you soon.
