About Me:
I am an amateur saxophonist and composer, and I am currently studying music at Grant MacEwan university in Edmonton. I have a growing library of big band music, and I have recently begun to dive into orchestral writing.

I have collaborated with such musicians and educators as Craig Brenan, Jerrold Dubyk, Joel Gray, Ken Hoffman, Tommy Banks, and PJ Perry on a variety of projects. Most recently, I was tasked with the responsibility of arranging a dozen or so Count Basie big band recordings into a small band setting (5 horns, 4 rhythm), which was performed in March 2009 and broadcast on CBC radio the subsequent month.

I am aspiring to be a freelance composer and arranger of film, TV and other commercial music, as well as musicals. I always want to continue writing music for big band, however, as that has been a true passion of mine for a long time.

On a personal level, I'm a dorky music nerd.

What Doug said. I think you may be in the wrong place if you're looking for songwriters; most people here write "through composed" music, which means that most, if not all of it is written down. There are many rock groups out there that don't even w…

I've learned that it's very important to actually be there for rehearsals, so you can iron out all the little details that you may have missed, or that the performers are interpreting in a way that you might not like. I'm very loose with my articula…

Hi Thomas,

Chris Merritt has asked me to contact all existing compsers that have reserved slots on the above project. It has to be said that the World's Longest Piece is gathering the momentum it needs now, which is great news. So can you inform Chris how near you are to finishing your piece, as I believe that he is anxious to get to work blending/mastering them into one sigle unit. We're gonna hit the big time!! Whoopee!!!

Cheers,

Simon

I had god awful sound fonts on my music for the longest time too. your sounds are far better than my midi sounds were.
I have a few of my songs however that I programed years ago on my commodore 64 that I would love to remake on PC someday.. now thats old school 8 bit goodness there

Hi there!
great charts man..
everyone is right you need better sounds.
you could try to find a small collage or highschool band to play them and record that =)
or try using a good VSTi.
were R your current sounds coming from? just general midi?
maybe try the Garitan Big band. I have not used it but the orchestra is amazing. and the price is very affordable

Hi Thomas,

Your arrangements are so good that it really makes me cringe hearing these terrible samples instead of a decent band.
They remind me, the early days of General Midi.
