"" I think a piece on anger (which this doesn't really reflect) would be single theme focused" Maybe. But given how many instruments you're using here you can write much denser, much angrier, textures. It is not required to…"

Stanley King replied to Kyle Benjamin Ross's discussion Ode to Hersheypark
"Interesting colours and textures. my observations for what they are worth are that  there is a lack of dynamics which would bring this piece to life and there are a lack of rests for the whole piece. Something is always playing. This coupled…"

Stanley King replied to Stanley King's discussion Angry!
"Hi Victor Eijkhout thanks for your comments. Yep, it was written in a day and does not have much counterpoint. On reflection though, I think a piece on anger (which this doesn't really reflect) would be single theme focused? I pose this…"

Stanley King replied to Stanley King's discussion Angry!
"Hi  Bob Porter The keyboard is marked with C4 1 octave to the left from the conventional position for the treble clef. I guess it is for screen space reasons. I just imagine I am sitting more to the right than normal. I just checked the base…"

Victor Eijkhout replied to Stanley King's discussion Angry!
"Nice piece. My main comment would be that the information density is not very high. In most places there is one melodic idea going on with maybe a couple of chord notes sustaining it, but no counter melodies or anything. You're using the…"

"Well, I hope there's more to that site. It lets you ID the wrong octave."

" Bob Porter I agree it doesn't portray anger very well. I need to let go of my desire for pleasant sounding music."

"michael diemer      I listened to Neilsen's 5th. Quite dissonant but very powerful. You also mentioned that you transfer from a DAW to Notion. Here is a link that I have found useful for memorizing note positions on staves…"

Bob Porter replied to Stanley King's discussion Angry!
"My takeaway? I didn't get anger out of this. What I got was more, I don't know, gladiators, maybe? I think anger would be more abrupt and violent. This seems more powerful and actually a bit upbeat."

michael diemer replied to Stanley King's discussion Angry!
"It's inevitable that music will sometimes remind us of other music. most of the time it's just coincidence at work. Re: Notion sounds, I agree they are very good. While I use a DAW for my working, I then export to notion. Makes a pretty…"

"Thanks michael, I also heard Scheherazade in the opening beats, but I didn't copy it I just came up with it. (I know you weren't saying that, I'm just  messing about.) Sometime I will try to write an angry piece the better…"

michael diemer replied to Stanley King's discussion Angry!
"The main theme in the low register reminds me momentarily of NRK's Scheherazade. On the whole, it was not as angry as I feared it would be. Sounded more martial to me, like an army advancing. Or Dalek's attacking. But it was pleasant…"

Stanley King replied to Michael Hamby's discussion Looking for feedback before release
"Not boring at all. Very engaging. I am no expert but a couple of things struck me. 1. I agree with Stephen but I didn't pick that up until I read his comment. For me though it would work better if there was a longer transition from the…"

Stanley King replied to David Carovillano's discussion The Exorcism
"Very interesting piece. I enjoyed it. Thank you. For me though this seem more fitting for possession than exorcism. Two reasons. Firstly it seems to me that the demon is till there at the end and secondly this  music does not speak of the…"

OK I have always had a desire to write something as grand as Beethoven's 3rd symphony. I messed about trying to play the clarinet, trumpet, guitar and piano. Failed at all. I have written songs / hymns for Church. I sang in the ad hoc choir in a production of Turandot in my youth. I tried composing back in the days of windows 95 but gave up. Now that I am retired I am trying to put some serious effort into composing, but I have no formal training, just a desire to write classical music. I have taken some cheap on line music courses and can read music but not fluently. I am joining this group to be more driven and involved.
