hi everyone, I'd like to throw my hat into the ring if anyone needs it. I work mostly in the box with my sample farm these days, but if someone needs a big electric guitar sound (or little one), I have a sound proofed room for recording some of the…

I was on the live chat today with Gary Garritan and other big giga format developers talking about the future of GS. It was really interesting, and while Gary could not give definitive answers on directions yet as they have not fully analyzed the co…

well Giga is not sounds, it is a technology, Giga was the industry standard for large orchestral compositions because of how it was set up to really take over a PC and made loading many instrument samples a possibility. The lack of support by TEAC w…

What I don't get about this partnership is the fact that Garritan have a reputation for being at the low end of VST samples - the sort of stuff used by notation packages like Sibelius, but not for the serious film composers. However, from what I rea…

About Me:
The best way to know about me is simply to listen to the music I make. I enjoy challenging myself as a musician, either by learning new instruments or different styles. I've become a curious fan of ethnic and world music and enjoy finding ways to slip bits of this or that into my compositions.

As a composer (I use Sibelius and my Nuendo 4 farm) I'm most informed by the work of Ennio Morricone. I've been playing the electric guitar for 24 years, mostly on the Fender Stratocaster. This is my main instrument and what I'm best at.

However, playing the electric guitar wasn't enough so for the past three years I've been studying drums with one of LA's best Jazz drummers, Khalil Herbert. Together we investigate a lot of world rhythms.

Prior to that I did one year of voice training.

Currently I'm studying Flamenco with Jeff Briggs, who studied with Juan Serrano.

I'm also studying keyboard/theory from Derek Sherinian, who is Berklee trained and has played with many fine, demanding musicians, including Yngwie Malmsteen. I ask him really interesting questions, like what about add 9 chords and how much beer Zaak Wylde really drinks.

I never want to stop learning and discovering music from all over the world.

If you think I can lend a hand with one of your projects, I would be happy to hear from you and to listen to what you have in mind. To me it's about getting the job done the way the client wants it. I can make my kind of music on my own time.

I work quickly - can easily do 3+ minutes of music per day.

Oh and the past two years I've also immersed myself in the world of modern electronic music making. You can hear some my past and ongoing work here:

Gear List / Studio Setup

As of 2009, I'm using a 20 processor farm (32 and 64 bit) of networked and sample synced computers containing commercial soft synths, fx, samplers and sample libraries from the following fine companies- Steinberg, Spectrasonics, FXpansion, Vienna Instruments, East West, Best Services, Arturia, Native Instruments, Tone2, reFX, Camel Audio, Rob Papen, Sonivox, Korg, IK Multimedia, not to mention literally hundreds of obscure and wonderful free VST instruments and fx, all categorized by likely use.

This system is linked to 16 pre-amp mic inputs, 8 of which are in a sound proofed room for recording amplified instruments and vocals. When I say sound proofed, I mean, I can record a 200 watt Marshall Major and it doesn't bother anyone. Well I have to wear 20 decibel reduction ear plugs, but that aside . . .

I have a variety of properly maintained guitars and amps (boutique, vintage and lovely Chinese bargain variety). Lots of vintage, modern and boutique foot pedals. Sound wise I can go from 1954 to post-apocalyptic Nu Metal with no problem. My favorite would be about 1972, but I do what the client wants.

Keyboards are my old trusty Korg Karma and a Korg PAX1-PRO that I use as my master.

Real World Setup Tips for Stratocasters

In my 18+ years of playing Fender Strats, I've come to know a few real world solutions for fixing some annoying basic setup problems that I would like to share with anyone who might be facing similar issues and scratching their heads about it. The beauty of the Fender Stratocaster is that one of Leo Fender's foremost considerations in it's prototype design in early 1954 was that it be easily serviceable, and it remains so to this day. You can't say that about a lot of other modern versions of co… Continue

From Bulgaria

I'm writing to you today from Sofia, Bulgaria. I took an extended vacation here, (1) because I needed it and (2) to study more closely some of my favorite music in the world- Bulgarian folk music.

At the Composer's Union in Sofia, I discovered the mother load of knowledge regarding Bulgarian Folk music- a two volume anthology of folk musicians by the legendary composer and writer, Todor Bakalov. It's a wonderful comendium, because instead of being like a dry textbook, it's a rich collection of… Continue

BFD 2 and Bulgarian Radio National Anthem

Hi there! I'm new to this forum, and haven't had much time yet to look around at all your profiles yet and listen to your music, but I'm very much looking forward to it. :-)

In the mean time, I've been busy working on some test projects to work out the kinks with various components in my system. For those of you who are into reading about gear and how people use it, this is going to be the main focus of my blog.

About a month ago I purchased BFD 2, which was a new release from fxpansion in Dec… Continue
