"Ryland I was with you right up until the Cantina Band variation. From then on it really lost focus for me. One way to make this type of thing work would be to build on each variation. Add instruments. Add volume. Change the texture. Build to a…"

"I prefer to withhold my music until a while after it's done. That helps me judge it a little more objectively. Two things I would do with this one, and this is really about what I like, not necessarily relevant to your objectives, is to use a…"

"Hey Eric, Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I have always been a sucker for quirky and wierd sounds and melodies. I always try to some how incorporate it into my music. Cheers, Ryland"

"Hi! I think it's pretty good for what it is. Like Raymond said, it would work well for chilling with a drink or smoke. And I really like the "odd" sounding synth melody around 2:33. I'm a sucker for those types of sounds :)"

"Hey Raymond, thanks for your input! It's much appreciated. What do you suggest I do to breathe some life into it? The idea of the piece was to see what i could do with one simple musical idea. If you could find a way to make it less…"

"Very nice melodic idea! I enjoyed it. Though, try to be careful with overusage of windchimes, They can be used once in a while for maybe a dynamic change or a pickup to a new part, but anything more than that they start to become a little on…"

Ryland Lafferty replied to Kirk Williams's discussion New Member - Looking for feedback
"I like what you're trying to do! Your harmonies are nicel; very james bond esque. But it takes too long to lead up to something that doesn't last long enough. Try using really thick chords to deepen the textures. Also, I have to agree with…"

"It`s interesting idea, sound orchestral but the beginning its to short- at second 23(trombon or horn entry), I think you can put first something like piano+winds at 1:43, tu develop that and continue like you have from sec.23. Don`t rush to end will…"

About Me (MUST be more than 10 words to be approved):
I'm Ryland Lafferty, ostensibly, a composer. I am of Native-American decent, though I tend not to indulge in traditional aboriginal ideas musically -- unfortunately. I was never too fond of the simple drum patterns. I'm a fan of the romantic and modern periods' use of odd-meters and keys. There's nothing better than a fluid melody carried through an impossible to count measure!

Favorite Composers:

Baroque: Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Scarlatti...

Classical: Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert...

Romantic: Saint-sans, Sibelius, Sarasete, Wagner, Chopin, Beethoven (late), Orff, Strauss, Grieg, Paganini, Tchaikovsky...

Modern/Contemporary: Stravinsky, Scelsi, Coates, Lim, Tidrow...

Film: Williams, Horner, Shore, Elfman, Zimmer...
