Since joining, my musical productivity had gone up, I've built an amateur recording studio for guitar and even released my first amateur studio recording (all amateur, of course :P). I've made some new friends and tons of colleagues both inside and outside of this site. So, overall, I'm happy to have joined and plan on continuing to be as active a member as I can.Outside of music, my life has seen some significant ups and downs. I started…See More

I may not understand dubstep well (or electronic music, in general, for that matter), but I respect any genre of music that has a popular following. Here is my assessment of dubstep as I understand it. Low musicality, high bass, high volume, fixed rhythms, formulaic, great for parties, dance clubs, music videos, commercially-booming, requires a discerning ear for electronic timbres, never in my top 5 music genres (x.x). By low musicality, the average dubstep tune doesn't have the tonal…See More

"Mister Malry"- Song for Full Hard-Rock/Metal Band

This song tells the story of Mr. Malry, a ghoulish vampire who terrorizes his hometown after coming back from the grave (According to the classic vampire legend, a vampire is a living corpse that rises from his or her grave to feast on human blood, usually sleeping people. Vampires cannot enter a person's home without an invitation.) I highly recommend reading the lyrics on the score so that you'll get the full story, which I think came out pretty good. Before you say it, I know that the song is…See More

"Teeth of Winter"- a metal instrumental for 3 guitars and drums

This song was very fun to write, and I really hope you metal-heads out there like it, too. :DMy concern is that the piece is not properly concluded, even though it kinda is already. I just didn't want to go that far beyond the 3 minute mark.See More

Opening the Floor for Suggestions on a Forum-wide Competition

So, I started some buzz in the chatroom today about possibly, POSSIBLY having this site be the host for a friendly competition amongst us composers. A few of us started talking, and we felt that it would be good for this site to have at least one. We're going to need the attention and support of most, if not all, active members in order for this to work. This thread will be the site for any and all discussions pertaining to the formation of Composers' Forum's first competition, including rules…See More

Song for Piano No. 2 in Concert A

Hello, everyone. This is my first numbered piece, since I've just been writing so much that I can't put a unique title on each and every song. My concern with this piece is that the tempo may be too fast, making the ostinato sections too taxing for the player.EDIT: 5/23/12- Check out the new .mp3 file for this song, courtesy of Bernard Duc!See More

"The Forever Song" for Guitar Trio in F# Minor

This is a song I had stowed away in my library for the longest time. I decided to dig it up because I am sincerely curious to see what you all think about it.Is this song playable on guitar? Probably not. But, that didn't stop me from making it as zany as possible. I hope you guys enjoy. Also, if somebody could make a .mp3 of this song using the .mid I provided and post it as a reply to this thread so that everyone can find it, I would appreciate it.EDIT: Reposted the actual song and took down…See More

Song for Piano in A Major 1:58

I don't really have any concerns with this piece except that it might sound too familiar to the average ear to be taken seriously. As this is a serious effort on my part, I would like to know if there are any problems with the piece. Also, as I do not have access to an mp3 converter, if somebody could make an mp3 of this .midi file and post it as a reply to this thread, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you.See More

Who Are Your Heroes of Music?

Posted on March 11, 2012 at 4:45pm 1 Comment

We all have different combinations of musical influence. I take my dose of Beethoven in the morning and Mozart in the evening. After listening to enough of them, I've worked out which sounds better or what have you. But, it didn't start off as simply listening to all their music. I've gotten to know the people behind the music, and some of them have become my heroes.

As a person on the autism spectrum, I cling to the possibility that great men in musical history were also…

Greetings from a Musical Mind

Hello Composers' Forum members!

This is my first ever blog.

I have been trained in music for 10 years now. I started by playing the Bb trumpet from 5th grade up through high school. I have been composing music for three years now, though it has only been recently that I have been publishing with full rights to my work. I have yet to get a recording done by a real musician, but I am working with a friend to do just that at the moment.

I feel that…
