I've been working on this string quartet for a while now, but I feel like I can't write any more beyond where I've stopped in the fifth movement. Because it's going to stay at this stage for the…Continue

A slightly facetious piece I've been working on over the past few days to de-stress. The first movement out of eight planned ones. As I don't play a string instrument, I would be very interested to…Continue

Hey guys,I originally envisioned this as a collection of six fugues with borrowed subjects (the composers of which I shall not name just yet, but kudos to those who recognise them). These were to be…Continue

"Nate, Nice to see you back. I've only had a chance to listen to the first mvt. so far, but will get to it all eventually. Your writing is wonderful, the rhetoric is cogent and the music is technically excellent and as you can probably guess, I…"

String Quartet in C major

I've been working on this string quartet for a while now, but I feel like I can't write any more beyond where I've stopped in the fifth movement. Because it's going to stay at this stage for the foreseeable future, I have decided to upload it here. I suppose it is best described as a postmodern parody of Beethoven's late quartets, but make no mistake: it is serious music.See More

"All notes can be played as a harmonic. The primary note will be played as a hard stop with the 1st finger while the harmonic is produced with the 4th finger. "

"I did play string instruments, so I may be able to add some thoughts. Overall, I felt that the dynamics seemed rather flat. No dramatic contrasts or building of tension or anything like that. The Soundcloud waveform betrays that.  Often times,…"

"No. harmonic E third position extended fourth finger not fully damped then next note damped. But Nate, the point is that the players know how to do this without being "micro managed"."

"Incomplete portamento (not glissando) on the next string, obviously. I'm not sure if I understand you completely: you'd play open E and then port. up to to E6?"

"Oh sure, I meant that a player would approximate something based on the obvious intent even if the notation is impossible. You can't glissando across strings BTW."

"m63 I would be playing C4 3rd position on G string then harmonic open E followed by proper E6. You can indicate with little circle above first E. Any player would think about doing it this way. You can't glissando across strings BTW."
