Hi all,I apologize for hot having visited the forum for a couple of years. I lost interest in composing, feeling I had hit a dead end with the midi & virtual synths medium, but then I started…Continue

A couple pieces that use Chromaphone

"Just to provide another side to what Bob said, many of my piano pieces are based on improvisations. I start off improvising, and when I hit upon a good idea, I would do several rounds of improvising based on that idea, and this way something begins…"

"Mike, Thanks for posting. To my mind, there is improvising, and there is composing. It's possible that I feel that way because I don't play piano, and don't have the luxury of just sitting down and producing music. I improvise on…"

Back on the forum -- sorry it has been so long... and a new musical journey

Hi all,I apologize for hot having visited the forum for a couple of years. I lost interest in composing, feeling I had hit a dead end with the midi & virtual synths medium, but then I started another musical journey improvising on the piano. I think I've got some chops now, although not necessarily the way one would expect, which I hope is my voice emerging. I'd like to share my latest result:…See More

"I like it a lot. The first part reminds me of Turangalila. I like the clusters in the bass ostinato (sounds jazzy, sort of reminds of Bernstein). Nice use of the chromatic scale."

A couple pieces that use Chromaphone

I recently discovered and bought Chromaphone, which is an amazing synthesizer for generating a wide variety of percussion sounds -- without any samples. I composed two pieces that use Chromaphone exclusively (plus Valhalla Room for reverb): Lotus Notes (attached)Neptunian Distractions I've posted these to my profile. Your comments are welcome! MikeSee More

The Planets -- arranged for synthesiser

I stirred up some controversy last summer when I posted my synthesizer arrangement of Mercury. Since then I've been busy :-)  I've finally completed all of The Planets: http://soundcloud.com/mike-leghorn/sets/the-planetsI don't mean to stir up more controversy by advertising this on the Composers' Forum. I figured that since I put poured my heart and soul (and about 500 hours of my time) into this project, that it's worth…See More

Looking for constructive criticism on my latest piece

Hi everyone, I recently composed a piece, which I call "Bazooka Joe has a fantasy". It's a little over six minutes long. I used these VSTi's: Zebra, Diva, True Pianos. For effects I used Valhalla Room reverb and KTGranulator for grain effects. Sonar X1 Studio was my DAW. There is no score.I would really appreciate your open, honest, and brutal criticism. People have told me that my music jumps around from one idea to the next too much, and doesn't leave much to grab onto. Is that the case here?…See More

Hey Mike! I like your music. Being a synth nerd myself I really appreciate your handling of sounds that goes beyond imitating acoustic instruments. Great works!
