I like the score easy to read, I especially like the chromatic half steps up and down throughout the piece really adding to the piece. Merry Christmas

Triplets seem to dominate, so I second keeping the dotted note for the tempo. Musicians are going to find the 16th in the time sig a little odd, since they're used to seeing 8th notes in triplet time signatures, so I also second the idea of doubling…

I would just double all the note values... make the tempo mark dotted quarter. I actually think you made the right choice using a dotted note for the tempo indicator. groups of 3 dominate the piece and and that's what i think of as the pulse even th…

OK. Nice stuff here generally. Observations: 1) Viola. If you get up to an octave above the a string, write in treble cleff, rather than 8va, 2) Vioin 1 (and 2) if you get to C3 and above, write as 8va 3) Piece badfly needs dynamics and articulation…

I have been putting much thought into this piece as it is along with 2 other sections going to be used in a dance performance with a string quartet playing live in the center of the dancers. After contemplating my tempo.. I think I understand bette…

well, Ok. You've got repeating patterns that equal 21 16th notes and you've divided these into three bars of 5, 7 and 9 16ths. The only reason to do that is to created emphasis on the first beat of these irregular bars, but the lack of articulation…

About Me:
I have been playing music sense I was able to hold a guitar. I began singing even before I could put together complete sentences. My folks surrounded me with music and they played in a gospel country quartet.
My first musical performances were with them singing along with dad.
I learned guitar by playing along with his records and reading his sheet music.
I always have enjoyed classical music but really got into that when I was in elementary school. The Book Mobile (a library on wheels for rural school kids) carried many records of classics from Beethoven to Stravinsky. But what really got me hooked was Wendy Carlos Switched on Bach and the Switched on Brandenburgs.
I was about 12 when I fell in love with Heavy Metal. one major reason is how Metal is so similar to the classical composers in respect to the use of modes and many of the phrasings used by the guitar players I grew to love.
Once I got into High School I began playing guitar in the jazz band and it was then that I really began growing as a musician and started to really learn the fundamentals of music theory.

I currently play solo acoustic guitar in local bars, trying to turn it into a small group (3 or 4 piece), and am working with a death metal band called Dark Nation.

It has been only sense around 2007 or so that I have begun composing for other than guitar based music. I am really enjoying all that I have learned about it thus far and I cant wait to learn more.

Great stuff Mike! I like your harmonic structures a lot, and your melodies are quite pleasant :) I especially like "Song For Helen", though your "Duality" series is impressive... reminded me of some of the Russian masters (Prokofiev, Stravinsky). Keep up the great work!

Hey Mike,

Currently, I'm only using Sibelius sounds for my audio files. I never really intended them to be professional quality, and I'm only now getting a wall of comments on how horrible the sounds are. I plan to get at least one recording up later this year, depending on how things work out, but I will definitely try and dig up my years old copy of Garritan Jazz and see if it does justice to my arrangements. I'm not sure how well it will work, however... hehehe.

Thanks for the comments.

Your music intrigues me Mike. I like how you're kind of "all over the map." It makes me think that if you're not afraid to step outside of some of the 'boxes' that maybe I shouldn't be either. It's good to not be afraid to try something new or different I think. I like your stuff because it has a lot of immagination, not just musically but in other ways as well.

I don't actually "play" that stuff.. haha! I try my best to make it sound as realistic as possible, but I am not as good as I used to be and thus the computer became the best way for me to express the music I wanted to write.

As a matter of fact, all of the music I have posted on the site has been done this year and since the end of February... I think I started February 2oth-ish or so... Thanks for listening to my musical puke.

I was in a 'thrash metal' band down in Ft. Lauderdale for about a year and we wrote some crazy stuff... I played the bass, keys, and guitar in that particular band. Not all at once of course.. :P "Midi + automation" did allow me to have the keys play so I could play either the guitar or bass however...

I am working on an acoustic song (among other things) on and off myself right now.. It is for my son and definitely needs some work though... I may post it one day.

BTW, I am surprised you liked the andante stuff... I was debating as to whether or not to even keep it posted... there are better compositions in my humble opinion in my tiny list. But thank you for the compliment regardless. :)

Take care and keep in touch! :)

Hi Mike;

I had to check out your page after listening to the Allegro in the Dissection Forum. On "Styx" now and intend on listening to everything again. I'm not sure how I missed you, but I'm glad I found your page. I'm always amazed at the talent to be discovered on this forum.
