"What's your budget? I've been researching this for weeks and I'm hanging on for the widely rumoured new Mac Pro. Whatever you get, forget 8meg of ram. Ram is cheap and I'd go for 32 meg or you might find yourself adding more…"

Michael Tauben replied to Peter Linn's discussion Question about copyright
"I really wouldn't get too hung up on copyright. There is very little likelihood of someone deliberately stealing your music for commercial purposes.  It depends though on the type of deal you do and with what type of company, as to whether…"

Michael Tauben replied to michael diemer's discussion Just Bought Vienna Strings Essential
"I think VSL Special Edition is a good place to start but I found the orchestral strings a little limited as far as articulations. No trills for example. But that's why SE is cheaper. I bought Cinematic Strings recently and I'm quite…"

Michael Tauben replied to Michael Tauben's discussion Septet for Vienna Instruments Special Edition
"Thanks Ray, I may actually get a friend to play real violin and viola on it and my niece plays clarinet so I could do a hybrid version. I suspect that it may show up the virtual instruments though. While I'm here, and although not relevant to…"

Septet for Vienna Instruments Special Edition

Here's a short demo piece I wrote for a septet of FluteClarinetBassoonTromboneViolinViolaDouble BassI used the solo instruments from VSL Special Edition Vol 1.Sequenced in Logic.I think the legato violins could be better but the bassoon and clarinet are pretty convincing. The full instruments are obviously more versatile but the cut-down versions for the 'special edition' are a good starting point.See More

"Wow that's some rig! I can only add to my libraries slowly and judiciously especially as I'm doing more audio recording and shelling out on mics, preamps etc. I look at things like Broadway Big Band and salivate! "

Michael Tauben replied to Alex Dunn's discussion How intimidated do you feel by acknowledged masters of composition?

About Me (MUST be more than 10 words to be approved):
I'm a bit of an all rounder when it comes to writing. I like moving between genres and styles which has served me fairly well over the years. I think I have a sound grasp of the techniques of composers from antiquity to the present. I'm not a great fan of atonal music although I've written some. Earning a living means having to work in the commercial sector but I would love more opportunities to compose for large ensemble and for the concert hall.
