"Dear Michael, I enjoy your final movement soo much! Especially your melodius second theme and the 3rd theme (bottom of page 4) and the way you elaborate them are wonderful! indeed very (early/middle-)Beethoven like!! Sometimes your harmonies maybe…"

Joost Visser replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb - 2nd Movement
"Hello Michael, Congratulations, excellent work! Well done! A marvelous composition. Can’t wait for the “fast and furious” part…:) It feels like Beethoven with traces of Chopin. You are born 200 years too late….:) Do…"

"This is beautiful. You are  a gifted pianist/composer. I did find it very soothing. How long ago did you make this?  I hope you can manage to use it in some professional capacity. It deserves exposure. "

Gerd Prengel replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb - 2nd Movement
"Michael, this is really beautiful!! I love it, especially the haunting main theme! And it does not only sound like early Beethoven but breathes also the haunting simplicity of Beethoven's late Bagatelles. Do more like these!!!"

Liz Atems replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb - 2nd Movement
"This is serene and beautiful, very Beethovenian except (as H.S. says) maybe a little too calm for Ludwig, at least early and middle Ludwig, which seems closest to the idiom here. I look forward to hearing the 3rd movement! :)"

H. S. Teoh replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb - 2nd Movement
"Wow, beautiful!  And indeed, very soothing.  A bit "too" calm for Ludwig, but I certainly do hear elements of him throughout.  One of these days I'd like to hear both the 1st and 2nd movements together, to see how they…"

"You are quite the skilled pianist unless this is midi programming. If it is it's very convincing. I very much enjoyed this. I did notice what sounded like some clipping on the track. The track itself seems a bit "hot" for a classical…"

H. S. Teoh replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb (1st Mvnt)
"Ludwig is the best! ;-)  I'm also unashamedly heavily influenced by him. While the style is definitely very Beethovenian, it nevertheless carries a unique flavor that isn't Beethoven, but you (presumably).  I enjoyed it. …"

James Richardson replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb (1st Mvnt)
"Glad you included this, as I've been enjoying listening to your concerto, in addition to the Sonata you originally posted. Both are really great and deserve a high quality recording (there is a bit of distortion as has already been mentioned).…"

Liz Atems replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb (1st Mvnt)
"Very nice! I kept expecting the main theme to turn into the scherzo of the Pastoral Symphony... but overall it's a nice recreation of a Beethoven style... maybe a little better suited to a piano concerto than a sonata though. One critique of…"

Michael Lofting replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb (1st Mvnt)
"This is a bit of fun. I like the dominant theme, flourishes and the restarts. It seems to me to be better suited as a middle movement, scherzo and trio type rather than the first movement."
