- I am a burgeoning composer. I've been a musician and songwriter for many years and have performed in various rock and jazz groups and ensembles. I have recently been trying to develop my composition skills, and I hope to get some good feedback from the members on this site.

Hello everyone!. As I said, I am new to this forum, and I am excited to hear comments, others' music, and to get feedback (positive or negative) about my music.
I would greatly appreciate suggestions, critiques, and compliments from people. I am always learning, but I have no audience as of yet--it's impossible to really improve without criticism. I only write compositions at my computer with Finale 2011, but I am ready to hear what people think.

...OK. Your first movement is interesting. I found myself wanting to hear more surprises and more contrasts. You have played rock and jazz. Why not allow your orchestral music to reflect that? What sample libraries are you using? GPO? My advice to you- allow your music to reflect the influences of the 20th century. I agree with Ray- a DAW and other sample libraries will help too.

What I want to say is: feel free from this what your hear from other composers - try not to invite new the language but find an own individual way to say something with own words. And this can be in a way of tonality but so as we don´t use the language of Byron or Goethe we should´nt use the style = the syntax of composers of the 19 cent. I don´t think that any music is timeless! Music of Beethoven is different from music of Dufay and Messiaen, the circumstances of their becoming are important for form, function, sound, instrumentation and so on. So I think we should focus our forces on development of sounds for the people in a contemporary situation.

- Dear Joshua, why do you try to develop your composition skills in a historic style? It can never achieve a result what you self satisfies, because the music of the Beethovens, Mendelssohns &&& is in any case better then style copies-- listen to the world of today -- Ansgar
