Orchestral Work in Eb Major

Started this discussion. Last reply by Jon Brantingham Dec 18, 2012. 7 Replies

I like to compose short pieces on a regular basis, that I push myself to complete in 30 minutes or less. The last two I composed I thought were pretty decent, so I decided to orchestrate them into…Continue

Jon Brantingham replied to Johan Roeraade's discussion Fantaisie Russe ( for piano)
"Johan, I have to say, this piece is really good. I found the structure to be very clear, and easy to follow, the harmony is great, the melodies are singable, and the overall style to be very coherent. The only improvement I recommend, is continue to…"

"I think the point of getting it on kickstarter is they need the funds to get it working. And they can't really show a working app, if it hasn't been built. I know there have been failures on kickstarter. It's a judgement call, and at…"

Jon Brantingham replied to Bernard Duc's discussion Miniature - For piano

New kind of iPad notation software on Kickstarter

A friend showed me this yesterday. It is an ipad app, that converts your hand drawn notation to engraved notation. This is something that I've wanted for a while, and I am glad to see it is in development. They are asking for quite a bit of money, but this could be a very good app for those that like to write notation by hand.ThinkMusic iPad AppSee More

Tyler Hughes replied to Jon Brantingham's discussion Orchestral Work in Eb Major
"Their were good elements and some good orchestration. The moments where you have the first violins go from a middle C to a C 2 octaves above will be a stretch and I would consider changing that.  The only main issue I had is that it feels like…"

Kevin Keating replied to Jon Brantingham's discussion Orchestral Work in Eb Major

Bob Porter replied to Jon Brantingham's discussion Orchestral Work in Eb Major
"Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed it. And I agree, nice melody. I'm not totally sure the two pieces go together without more preperation and development. I also like to work fast, but some things require more care. Just depends on your goal."

About Me (Must include biographical information about you as a composer):
I am in the Army, but I am getting out soon. I decided that I want to go back to my roots, and get back into composing. I originally went to college to study music theory and composition, but switched my second year to history, as it fit in better with the Army as a career.

I haven't compose that much in the last 10 years but recently started up again. I am trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible.

The styles I am passionate about composing are Romantic, (I am a Mahler fan) and Jazz (I named my son Miles for goodness sake).
