Hi composer fellows, here is sort of a jazz rock song I am trying to mix. So far I am not so happy with the horns (which are Bb-Trumpet, Tenor Trombone, Alto-, Tenor- and Baritone Sax from VSL). In this version I did nearly nothing to them except for a low cut depending on the instrument between 50 and 100 Hz and a convolution reverb from a small room.So here is the big question: How do you experienced engineers treat horns in a musical context like this? Comments to the rest of the instruments…See More
actually I bought some of the keyboard scores that are listed on the planetzappa website about ten years ago. Later the sheet music button on the Barfko Swill website disappeared, and I guess that was Mrs. Zappa's idea. It seems…"
"If this is still an issue for you, and you haven't already started transcribing, here's how you can save time.
The PlanetZappa web site indicates that there is indeed a score available for Strictly Genteel. Scroll down this page:…"
I 'd like to join this project and if still available I take Track 11 from Bb 120 To F 90.
A few questions concerning the audio file:
Should there be some empty space in the beginning and the end?
Will there be an overall…"
"If one already exists elsewhere, I'd think you`ll maybe find one only in the US. But you might like to try Studio Music in UK - they handle a great deal of US publishers, i.e. Hal Leonard etc. Web Site: www.studio-music.co.uk
Hi there, every 2 years I play some shows with a rock band and the local high school orchestra and it is my job to orchestrate pop and rock songs and arrange classical pieces for the rock band. Next year I will suggest to play Zappa's "Strictly Genteel" as the last song of the show. Before I start to transcribe this piece from different recordings I have (which probably would end up in a very lite version), I want to know, if anybody out there has the score of this song, or knows how to get…See More
when I started sequenzing I also never quantized. I said to myself:' OK, you are a live musician so record your music live.'
I thought that the result was ok. One time I asked a friend of mine to play some guitar to my sequenzes, and…"

About Me (MUST be more than 10 words to be approved):
Hi there, I am writing music for 35 years now, most of the time as a hobby. From 2005 until 2008 I tried to make a living out of this. Although I sold a few of my pop songs I failed...sigh. Now, while I am trying to get a job as a bookkeeper or a software developer, I spend my time recording the orchestral music I have written over the years with some VST-Instruments. I would be glad to listen to your comments on these little pieces of music. Most of them are heavily influenced by John Williams (you know, the guy who did all the music for Spielberg and Lucas). Other ideas are stolen from my master Frank Zappa.
haha thank you Jochen! I understand you like John Williams, his music is an inspiration for me as well. Which is your favorite piece? My favorite is from Presumed Innocent, the end credits. I just love the sound of the piano with strings! As you probably heard in my music haha.
Jochen, 'snow' is a very daring piece of music, i love the discordant sound, and the move into a touch of jazziness, but mainly the driving forward content, and controlled anger.../ it's avant garde without being embarrassed about it...
how music such as this is ever created, is a tribute to persons like yourself, going over the top and remaining original...
the darkest night/ very lyrical, love to the chord changes... so theatrical.. as in a stage
"Maybe tomorrow": an amazing fusion of a lot of influences I estimate(d) myself as these classsical picture musics, as - oh yes: I was addicted as well... - Zappas symphonics & not at least: Klaus Schulze... Thanks for adding, "Neighbor". PETER. (from Marburg)
I don't think I ever answered you back. I'm currently working on some instrumentals. I plan to send them to music libraries for consideration. I have the piano parts to 2 of 8. So it'll be a while before I post them here. I'll probably post them in the Music Dissection forum.
Interesting piece, Maybe Tomorrow. Some interesting chord progressions.
I see that you like Art Rock. Within the past year I've been familiarizing myself with similar genres, particularly progressive metal (such as Dream Theatre). There is much to learn from some of these wonderful musicians.
