About Me:
Jo Blankenburg was born in 1972 in Germany and is now living in Auckland, New Zealand.
At the age of six he began playing the piano and the drums.
As a teenager he was an active member of two jazz formations. During his two-year stay in New York City he collaborated with various musicians and composed, produced and arranged music in the genres of Funk, Soul and RnB.
e won the “MTV Europe Song writing Contest” through which he was able to close an artist contract with Warner Chappell Germany, Warner Brothers Music. The winning track “Drag Me Down” was published in Germany and the according music video rotated on MTV Europe Music Television. Further publications followed within the genre of electronic music and vinyls were distributed to local DJs.
Since 2003 he is focusing on scoring feature films, TV-movies, short films and documentaries.
In summer 2006 he completed a Film scoring course at the Berklee College of Music, Boston.
At the beginning of 2007 he moved to Auckland, New Zealand. Inspired by the beautiful nature he composed a meditation album and lately started to work on his first New Age Solo Piano project. He is also composing orchestral pieces for the Los Angeles based Motion Picture Advertising Company and started to produce an orchestral score with various ethnic instruments for a high profile feature film. Furthermore he is scoring a short film by New York based director Scott Blanding and will write music for an african opera that will premiere in New York in May 2009.
Although his compositions cover a wide spectrum of genres, his main emphasis is Cinematic - and New Age Piano music. The interaction between acoustic and visual elements is the inspiring source for Jo. While in film scoring the images and pictures of a movie initiate the flow of ideas for dramaturgic compositions, with his latest projects like “Floatovations” and “The Feather Dance”, the intention is to evoke visualizations in the mind of the listener.
