About Me (MUST be more than 10 words to be approved):
I spent much of my life in denial of my artistic orientation, trying to “pass” in the corporate world, eking out a living. After decades of secretly writing and playing music, I’ve come out of the closet, and live my life openly as a musician and composer. In 2011 I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition. Now the *real* work begins...

thankyou for your kind words janet, I try to make my stuff intelligible .. structure form all of  those things that help a piece seem like it means something or is going somewhere. Still a very long way to go , but hopefully headed in the right direction.

Hey, Janet. My blog/podcast: Are You Still Dreaming goes live on December 24. I'd love to interview you via Skype for the podcast. The interview would take about 40 minutes, and we would just talk about what motivated you to go back to school and launch a new career after 40. The purpose of my blog is to inspire people by telling stories of people who are still starting afresh and/or living their dreams after 40 or despite illnesses or setbacks. I can send you an advanced copy of my first blog post if you want a better idea of what I'm doing.

A very enjoyable piece "Sing Hosanna, sing!" Thank you for sharing. I would very much like to be able to share some of my choral music with you as well, but unfortunately no performances have been recorded.

Janet Spangenberg replied to Bob Porter's discussion What's wrong with us?
"Some people are just like that. I had a composition teacher respond to a piece I wrote with, "What the hell is this sh*t?!" I still learned from the teacher, though not as much as I could have had he been more kind, or I less sensitive.…"

Janet Spangenberg replied to Bob Porter's discussion What's wrong with us?
"Thanks for posting this, Bob. I've belonged to another music site for ten years. It's more active than this one, with just as many artistically sensitive people from cultures around the globe. We have to deal with similar issues, but have…"

"Thanks for posting the screen shots along with an explanation of the procedures you used. It's a very impressive end product using the varied bits you were given to work with!"

Janet Spangenberg replied to Raymond Kemp's discussion June .......A choir of individual recordings
"Oo! Oo! I was hoping this would get posted! Ray, you are a truly a master! It sounds so clear and spacious. I can hear each of the voices, yet they blend really well. Love the placement of the voices, too. One would never know the parts came from…"

Janet Spangenberg replied to Tyler Hughes's discussion Reality of the Situation
"Greg, I didn't say anything about "new" music, I spoke of "creating music". Whether the music is created by musicians playing music composed by others (living or dead), or created by composing new music, arranging old music,…"

Janet Spangenberg replied to Tyler Hughes's discussion Reality of the Situation
"Excellent article, Tyler. From my perspective, he pretty much hits the nail on the head. There is a difference in my experience as a composition student than he describes, though. The head of the my university's composition department warned us…"

Janet Spangenberg replied to Tyler Hughes's discussion O Gracious Light
"Ohhh! Very nice, Tyler! I love the combination of textures and styles! Reading the score with it is also a pleasure, and seeing how you handled the split into polyphony, and also the aleatory section. It's a real fusion of different things, and…"

Janet Spangenberg replied to Cameron McFadden's discussion Question - How to prepare a score for submission...
"It can actually vary; there are usually instructions specifying details. Regarding competitions, I've heard from several people in the position of choosing the winning submissions say how common it is that people don't follow the…"

Janet Spangenberg replied to Rodney Carlyle Money's discussion What's an Instrument that You've Never Written For?
"I haven't written for all of those, but I've played most of them, except for about three! There are a ton I haven't written for, but there's one that's I'm eager to, the hammered dulcimer."

Janet Spangenberg replied to Gav Brown's discussion Potential "Theme and Variation" Contest Announced
"In case my posts were unclear, I agree with you. I don't think a score should be a requirement, but an audio file should be. However, this is all Gavin's call, and I'm not even entering, so my opinion is only worth its weight in,…"
