Hi,this is a very minimalistic piece that I would like to share. It is quite long so you need some stamina for listening. The idea is to produce a "constellation" of single sounds and to explore…Continue

"Hi Ingo, great analysis, you are certainly right in that some of the features of the piece, especially the rhythmic ones, can be reused in a different context. I did not find consonance or dissonance very important here, more the aspect of harmonic…"

Ingo Lee replied to Jan-Frederik Carl's discussion Piano miniature
"Hi Jan-Frederik - My thought was that some pieces have features that stand out well and that they can be used in a different setting and still be very effective.  The best example is when composers take a great melody and reuse it in a…"

"Hi Ali, yes, there is a truth in it, because the course of harmony direction (as well as rhythmic momentum) is so predominant and important in this piece. However, I would in a way disagree with that the intervals I use do not matter at all, that…"

"Hi Jan-Frederik, What I understood from Ingo Lee is, if you put your melody to intervals, the tones/pitches does not matter at all. For example m3 m3 P4 m2  m3 m3 Aug4M3  you can put any notes abiding these intervals. (m stands for minor,…"

"Hello Ingo, good to hear from you! And thank you for your feedback! But I am not sure I have understood what you mean by "I think the pitches are almost optional, you could have consonance or dissonance and it would still work." Sorry, my…"

"Great rhythmic momentum in this piece Jan-Frederik, it carries the piece quite well.  I think the pitches are almost optional, you could have consonance or dissonance and it would still work. And I agree that you could expand it or use it to…"

"Hi Ali, it is good to hear that from you. I consider building up on this small piece in the near future. Sonata is really an interesting form about which I have to learn a lot. Jan"

Jan-Frederik Carl replied to Jan-Frederik Carl's discussion Piano miniature
"Hi Ali, thank you for your comments, good to hear from you! Yes, the piece is really simple, I play with the idea to develop it into a sonata movement of some kind. Perhaps more. The piece could use some contrasting, unrelated motives in the middle…"

"Hi Jan-Frederik, Congratulations.  Excellent.  The processing of initial material is noteworthy. I listened twice.  I could not notice a well declared and relational gradual development of the ideas.  Some new material comes may…"

"Hello Michael, thanks for the reply and glad you liked it! Interesting suggestion. It is possible that I will reuse the ideas of the piece in a slightly different form, so I will keep your idea in mind. Kind regards, Jan"

Jan-Frederik Carl replied to Albert de la Fuente's discussion A little symphonic poem
"Hello Albert, hearing your piece, I get angry, angry with myself that I cannot achieve something similar. The textures seem to be very clear, and what wonderful melodies. Have to take a deeper look. Thanks for sharing. Jan"

"Hello Dane, thank you for your kind reply. I did not see the piece as a prelude, but on rethinking it, it might well be. De facto, I am building on this idea since some time, and why not design a whole concert piece after this? Jan"

I am a (relativley fresh) hobby composer and work on contempary music as well as pop songs, mostly for piano.

Although I have been interested in composition for a very long time, only recently I decided to really go for it and to finally subordinate my other big love, literature, to it ;)

I am regularly practicing the piano and have taken violin lessons as well as attending a choir for several years.

Please also take a look at my youtube channel:

You can find even more music on my musescore account (https://musescore.com/user/32556702), it is mostly midi output. Email me if you would like some of this music performed live.

All comments and critique are appreciated.
