New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Douglas Locke Sep 2. 9 Replies

With this piece I was trying to go for something positive and uplifting, that might be used to accompany film (a trailer, montage, etc). I would really appreciate your feedback on this, thanks. Continue

I composed this piece with the intention of capturing both the peacefulness and drama of Japan's mountainous landscape. I would really appreciate you feedback, thank you! Continue

Good (and free) Organ VST

I just wanted to share a free Organ VST I came across recently. It's sampled using the Leeds (UK) Town Hall Organ. It's available here.I've found that it works best in Kontakt, but it also works in Sforzando and a few other players. I hope this helps someone as much as it has helped me! Cheers, James See More

Douglas Locke replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"I'm getting a montage feel from it.  Definitely soundtrack quality.  If anything, I'd encourage you to "mix it up" a little. The latter part is great, but there is no reason not to add to the first part. …"

James Richardson replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"Thank you! Yes, I often go for minimalism in my music. Glad you found it pleasing to the ear, and thanks for your comments about the balance and production. I'm fairly new to producing my own music, so this is useful. Thanks again. "

James Richardson replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"Thanks for your very kind words, I really appreciate your thoughts on this. That's an excellent idea about the drone footage, I'll give that a go.  I'm currently trying to build up my portfolio to apply to some production…"

James Richardson replied to Dane Aubrun's discussion Music for Orchestra with Coloratura.
"Got it, thanks! I think the problem must've been on my end. Using a different browser I can see the links fine.  Thanks for sharing this. I was fascinated throughout, it certainly is a musical journey. Some of the sounds were really nice…"

Dane Aubrun replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"Hi, James, Well, I'm pretty averse to "film music" - not, though, to film set to music which happens rather less but seemed to be called for here. What I found attractive is its minimalistic style. It could have gone on a little…"

Timothy Smith replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"I liked this as a montage or trailer as you say. Has a great positive airy vibe. The arpeggiated strings give it plenty of movement that would go well with something like 4k drone footage over a scenic landscape. In fact, you might want to consider…"

James Richardson replied to Dane Aubrun's discussion Music for Orchestra with Coloratura.
"Hi, I can't see a link to your content. Not sure if it's a browser issue on my end, or if you missed it out in your post (easily done). Thought I'd point it out in case it helps. Looking forward to hearing it anyway!"

James Richardson replied to Michael Bates's discussion Sonata in Bb (1st Mvnt)
"Glad you included this, as I've been enjoying listening to your concerto, in addition to the Sonata you originally posted. Both are really great and deserve a high quality recording (there is a bit of distortion as has already been mentioned).…"

James Richardson replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"Hi Liz, thanks for your comments. You've made some really good points. I completely agree that it's not really cinematic enough for a film trailer. In my head I was thinking a trailer for a nature documentary or something similar, so…"

Liz Atems replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"I'll say that I wasn't bothered at all by the repetitive piano writing here, largely because it was such a short piece. But if you were to extend it and develop it further, I would think you should want to vary it some. As for whether…"

James Richardson replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"Thanks for your feedback. Good idea about practising to some film, I think it will be something I could learn a lot from. For this piece, it was more of an attempt at music that might be suitable for stock/production library. Appreciate that the…"

Ingo Lee replied to James Richardson's discussion New piece - 'Connections'. Do you think it work for a trailer?
"Hi James, this sounds good and I would say it is uplifting too. You have a typical cinematic piece here which is what you want I think so it is well done in that respect.  To my ears there is too much repetition for even a short piece. …"

James Richardson replied to Nigel Campbell's discussion New Piano piece - Should I add strings?
"I really enjoyed this piece, and I think that it definitely works as a it is. I can certainly hear where strings could be added (perhaps some very ambient strings, or some very soft pizz or col legno, just for texture), but I think the simplicity of…"

James Richardson replied to Timothy Smith's discussion Celtic Electra
"Very nice piece! Very calming to listen to, and the vocals are really great. I definitely would like to hear more of these vocals, as has been said above already. A nice choice of genres to blend, I thought it worked really well. Thanks for sharing"
