Piano Impromptu in B-Flat Minor

Thanks so much for the reply on this piece. I've worked very hard in trying to convey the instability and overall sadness, desperation, anger, and even sometimes fleeting and brief moments of joy. ...

The why and the who of composition

1. Why do you compose music? I compose for a number of different reasons. One in particular: In 2007, I was diagnosed with DID (dissociative identity disorder, aka multiple personality disorder). ...

Piano Impromptu in G-Minor

Thanks for the reply. I definitely want it to stay a solitary piece. In the end, the repeats will probably be tossed. I wanted to publish a book of piano impromptus and shorter works once I finish...

About Me:
James May, a.k.a. JmAY, was just a kid when he discovered the complex world of music. A self-taught classical pianist at heart, the Kansas City, Missouri native was never formally introduced to classical greats like Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, or Bach---it wasn’t a popular form of music among family and friends.

Despite the lack of exposure to the classical genre, JmAY was constantly playing classical melodies in his head, and by the age of 13, had taught himself several popular classical tunes, including: Ludwig van Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata; its popular first movement and virtuoso third movement, Fur Elise, several pieces from J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, and Frederic Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu, just to name a few. Without access to a piano at home, JmAY practiced his craft diligently after church services at St. James United Methodist Church.

“I can remember hearing many different classical songs in my head, all the time,” he says. “Looking back, most of it was Beethoven but at the time, I didn't know whose it was. I truly believe from my heart that God imprinted these melodies in my mind. Short phrases became full songs, and I would literally teach myself anything I was drawn to,” he says."

Shut Up and Watch the Movie is skillfuly crafted and titled. Think About It has my full attention. I dig that ecclectic style !

Good impromptu. I wasn't convinced by the harmony and the voice-movements, but the music is good.

Thanks for posting your symphony James. I've listened to it twice and it is truly beautiful. I cannot wait until the day arrives that somewhere in some city that there will be a Composers Forum Festival that showcases the very best talent here on Composers' Forum, and I would certainly expect to hear this Symphony in C Minor of your's if that ever happens. In the meantime, I'll just keep listening here. :)

Beautiful piano work James! I thoroughly enjoy each and every single piece you have here. I especially like sonatas and it is my dream to write one some day. I know now where to come for inspiration! God bless.

James,

I am in the middle of moving to another state and "camping out" while i pack up my stuff. I have posted no music on the forum yet and probably am about two or three months away from doing so. Meanwhile, I may be out of touch for a while but will be back. I'll be listening to your work as I am able to get to a computer during the uproar.

Keep it going because you really want to. Everything else will come as you go,
best,
tony

Nice work james. Enjoyed listening. Really pleased to hear a young person doing classical work and impressive that you taught yourself. Stay with it and grow into your own style, which will come itself out of your work. Nice, really nice.
best to you,
tony h
