Hi James

See that you haven't been active on Composers Forum but hoped you might see this message.

So few SA composers on site.

Thanks for your comments Dennis.  No greater commentary can be given to a composer than his work "struck me quite deeply".  This is, one would hope, the intention.

I'll be honest, and hope I dont disappoint you Dennis but I am not sure how the work came together.  It took me 3 years to finish (i had 18 months off in the middle practicing piano).  Regarding the Cadenzas, when I hear it now I am still quite surprised mysef how i did it.  So I cannot offer advice on structuring Cadenzas other than to say, if I have a solid harmonic vein going through the music, then the cadenza just seems to happen.

I can say that I love how Rachmininoff plays melody (and harmony) "between" the notes.  He seems to thread the needle and goes even deeper when the harmony already is quite complete

Hi James,

Just listened to your Symphony No. 1 First movement, and really enjoyed your opening theme in cellos; your overall orchestration was very skillful, and well integrated.  I thought it was interesting how it slowed towards the end, which created a sense of grandeur to my mind.
